At Microsoft Security Platform, we aim to create a safer digital environment by building a comprehensive security cloud that enhances and simplifies our customers’ security postures. In a world of increasing threats, regulatory requirements, and complex digital infrastructures, organizations require advanced solutions to protect extensive data across on-premises, multi-cloud, and SaaS environments. Map their digital environment: Providing visibility across all assets—devices, users, permissions, data systems, and virtual machines—allowing organizations to inventory their digital estates.Integrate and standardize security data: By pre-integrating and normalizing data from multiple sources, we make managing security logs efficient and cost-effective.Answer critical security and compliance questions: Leveraging advanced AI and machine learning, our platform empowers customers to identify patterns, detect threats, and make informed security decisions in real-time.Microsoft Security is searching for a Principal Software Engineering Manager to lead the development of a core subsystem within this cutting-edge security data platform. In this role, you’ll be responsible for shaping technical strategy and guiding feature development, overseeing a high-caliber engineering team, and collaborating closely with product management, security experts, and other engineering groups. You’ll play a key role in designing, building, and delivering a robust subsystem that meets the highest standards of performance, security, and scalability. As both a technical and people leader, you will drive innovation while ensuring alignment across teams for a successful product launch.

Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of a critical subsystem, managing a team of engineers and fostering collaboration. Develop and drive the technical strategy, aligning goals and decisions with partner teams. Oversee the full feature development process, from requirements gathering to deployment. Mentor and guide engineers, ensuring technical excellence and best practices. Optimize subsystem performance to ensure scalability, availability, and security. Drive improvements by adopting new technologies to enhance platform capabilities. Qualifications
Required/Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.6+ years of experience in building large-scale, distributed software systems2+ years of experience managing high-scale engineering teamsExpertise in cloud-native architecture, microservices, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).Demonstrated ability to lead complex feature development from concept to production, including collaborating with multiple partner teams and driving consensus.Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.
4+ years people management experience
8+ years of experience in building large-scale, distributed software systemsExperience to lead complex feature development and manage high-scale subsystems or platform components in mission-critical SaaS products. Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.Knowledge of data processing frameworks such as Spark, Hadoop, or similar technologies.
Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
