Description

Come join the Delivery Optimization Client team, part of the Edge Device Services group within Windows + Devices organization. We are looking for a passionate Software Engineer II with initiative, zeal for technology, who is innovative, and has excitement to help us further our platform for massive at-scale distribution of content.

Microsoft’s Delivery Optimization technologies connect billions of Windows devices every day, providing a robust and fast content acquisition of Microsoft software such as operating system updates, games, drivers, enterprise and consumer tools & applications, AI models and store content. A synergistic combination of Windows client and cloud services enables per-device, smart peer selection, which optimizes for network location, connectivity, virtual groups, and geography. The Delivery Optimization team is home to both client and server teams, working in unison, to develop cutting-edge solutions to increase download reliability and speed, while reducing enterprise content acquisition cost. Our solution keeps clients up to date whether they are part of a massive enterprise or an isolated oil rig at sea. We have integrated our peer-to-peer ecosystem with Windows Update, Microsoft Office, Xbox, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Teams, Edge and System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), bringing our technology to nearly all of Microsoft’s content.

You will build knowledge and share new ideas, identifying gaps in engineering tools. With an emphasis on self-learning and curiosity, you will use and develop awareness of various tools for product creation. You will create automation, ensuring code functionality with minimal oversight. Staying current with industry developments, you will enhance product availability, reliability, efficiency, and performance. You will follow processes to ensure security, privacy, safety, and accessibility, demonstrating compliance and understanding new technologies. Applying practices, you will build reliable code and ensure compliance with regulations. You will analyze problems, develop theories to root cause issues, and implement solutions effectively. You will communicate with key partners across Microsoft, aligning product development with their goals and meeting dynamic needs. You will support debugging efforts by examining logs, telemetry, and other methods to verify assumptions proactively and reactively. You will conduct retrospective debugging to identify root causes of problems. You will create and implement code for products, ensuring it is extensible, maintainable, and follows practices. You will review code to meet quality standards, applying feedback to current and future iterations, and ensuring diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability. You will participate in code reviews to ensure coding standards are followed and apply practices in reviews. You will contribute to the architecture of product features, create proposals, and refine code plans with technical leadership. You will develop design documents, identify dependencies, and ensure system architecture meets security and compliance requirements. You will also create and improve testing plans, ensuring good test coverage and integrating automation features. Embody our culture and values

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experienceOther Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafterPreferred Qualifications

There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
