Within Microsoft Fabric, the Platform team builds and operates the unified foundation that brings together all Fabric workloads into a single, cohesive experience. The platform provides shared infrastructure, governance, security, and a unified data model that enables customers to manage their entire data estate in one place. This team is central to delivering Fabric as a complete, end-to-end intelligence platform.

Within the Microsoft Fabric Platform team, we are the Core Platform Engineering Systems team, and we are hiring a Software Engineer II.

We are a product engineering team: We design and build the platforms and services that carry Fabric from pull request to production, covering the local development inner loop, pull request validation and test infrastructure, end-to-end validation environments, deployment services, and the data systems that measure delivery performance. Our mission is to make Fabric's software delivery highly automated, fast and safe, with minimal manual intervention, a bounded blast radius, and automated rollback, and we measure our products against industry-standard DORA metrics including deployment frequency, lead time for change, change failure rate, and recovery time.

The engineering systems platforms we build are designed to run the engineering systems for every workload in Fabric, so each improvement we make compounds across all of the products in the Fabric suite and the teams that build them. This is a software development role, not an operations role: the work is designing APIs and services, writing production C#, and shipping features on a platform whose users happen to be other engineers. If you enjoy building developer-facing products such as build and CI/CD systems, test infrastructure, release orchestration, and deployment tooling, you will find deep and interesting problems here at the scale of one of the largest Azure services in the world.

Responsibilities

Design and build developer-facing services and tools that improve the Fabric inner loop, including local development environments, build systems, and engineering tooling. Develop pull request validation and test infrastructure as a product, improving pipeline speed, test reliability, and coverage so quality issues are caught before merge. Build end-to-end validation environments and the automation that provisions them, helping changes reach daily validation quickly and safely. Design and implement deployment services that offer progressive rollout, health gating, and automated rollback as reusable capabilities for Fabric workload teams. Build the data and reporting systems that measure delivery performance, turning DORA signals into insight that engineering teams can act on. Write extensible, well-tested C# code and participate in code reviews with attention to coding patterns, security, and compliance. Embody our culture and values.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.Other Requirements:

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python or equivalent experience. Preferred experience developing engineering systems as software products, such as build and CI/CD systems, test infrastructure, release orchestration, or developer productivity tooling. Preferred experience designing and building services and APIs used by other engineering teams. Preferred experience designing and building highly scalable, multi-tenant backend or middle-tier services. Preferred hands-on experience with distributed systems technologies such as Azure Service Fabric, containers/Kubernetes, Service Bus, Event Hub, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL, or Redis.#azdat

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
