Within Azure Data, the big data analytics team provides a range of products that enable data engineers and data scientists to extract intelligence from all data – structured, semi-structured, and unstructured. We build the Data Engineering, Data Science, and Data Integration pillars of Microsoft Fabric.

As a Software Engineer II in the Data Engineering team, you will contribute to the cloud infrastructure and large-scale distributed systems that enable the Spark experience in Microsoft Fabric as well as Microsoft’s Cosmos Analytics big data platform.

Responsibilities

- Develop, test, and maintain features in distributed services and cloud infrastructure that support large‑scale analytics workloads, following established design patterns and engineering standards.

- Write well‑tested, maintainable code leveraging AI tools and participate in code reviews.

- Learn and apply best practices for performance, reliability, and secure development.

- Participate in on‑call rotations, investigate live‑site issues, apply fixes, and improve service reliability through bug fixes, instrumentation, and automation.

- Work closely with peers, senior engineers, PMs, and partner teams to deliver features, review designs and code, and integrate with shared platform components.

- Implement security, privacy, and compliance requirements into code and configurations, and address findings identified through reviews and audits.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

- 3+ years of experience designing, building, and operating scalable distributed systems.

- Demonstrated experience with modern infrastructure development practices such as Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, DevOps, and/or Platform Engineering.

- Experience with Azure, AWS, or other cloud computing platforms.

- Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools during the software development lifecycle.
