Overview

We are seeking a talented Software Engineer II to contribute to the development of Microsoft’s rapidly growing commercial platform. As part of the Commerce Platform & Experiences team, you will help build and operate world-class commerce experiences for customers and partners, working on highly strategic and industry-relevant projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

In this role, you will tackle complex engineering challenges, writing high-quality code to build robust, reliable, and highly distributed software systems using the latest technologies. You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside highly talented engineers to develop systems that support all Microsoft businesses & 3rd party partners to go to market across all channels (consumer, enterprise, direct, partner) and in all clouds. You’ll be empowered to envision, design, code, validate, and deploy key features with substantial customer impact, collaborating with teams across the company to gain broad exposure and diverse technical experience.

Responsibilities

Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features. Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight. Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. Have a solid understanding of the software development cycle, from architecture to testing. Have a passion for quality, write secure, reliable, scalable, and maintainable code. Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate. Pro-actively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale. Embody our Culture and Values

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred Requirements:

Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, along with 2+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python; OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, along with 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python; OR equivalent experience. 2+ years’ experience in design and implementation of large-scale cloud services.  2+ years’ experience building extensible and maintainable services.  Industry experience with cloud technologies (Azure, AWS, Google). Experience with distributed systems, micro-service architecture, scalability patterns, and high-availability architectures. Experience with REST Based API’s development, messaging patterns (e.g. Service bus, Event Hub, Storage Queues) and cloud storage technologies ( e.g. Cosmos DB) Proficient in problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to debugging and performance optimization. Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions. Passion for customer-focused innovation. Experience in deploying, monitoring, and operating services in the cloud. Ability to learn quickly and self-motivated. Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and organizational skills. Experience with or exposure to Agile and iterative development processes. Familiarity with modern engineering practices such as CI/CD and version control systems like Git.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
