Description
The Production Engineering and Artificial Intelligence (AI) team, part of the Linux Platform Group in Microsoft’s Azure Core organization, plays a critical role in powering Azure Cloud. This team ensures that Azure operates with the latest versions of Linux software, delivering the highest quality and performance while serving as the gatekeeper for production software. The team achieves this at Azure scale through advanced automation and by leveraging artificial intelligence to reduce manual effort. Joining the Production Engineering and AI team offers an opportunity to contribute to the growth of Microsoft’s Azure Cloud infrastructure.As a Software Engineer II on this team, you will design, develop, and maintain software and automation that ensure the continued performance of Linux operating systems and related software on Azure Cloud systems. You will collaborate with multiple teams and partners to deliver solutions that enhance reliability and efficiency. This role provides the chance to strengthen your expertise in cloud computing and Linux technologies while making a meaningful impact for millions of users worldwide.

Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features.Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.Create, debug and maintain clean, efficient, easy-to-maintain and well-documented code to ensure that any Linux based software that gets deployed onto Azure Cloud meets our high-quality standards and provides a seamless experience to our partner teams and end users, reusing code as applicable.Leverage AI and automation to drive efficiency in our processes and reduce human toil.Be an Open Source enthusiast and contribute to our projects in the open source community via enhancements, code reviews and setting up of CI/CD pipelines.Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
Qualifications
Required QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or Python OR equivalent experience. 1+ years of experience in Python and Bash.1+ years of experience in handling Linux systems, ideally on public clouds and Linux Operating System internals including networking, storage and memory management and Linux utilities.1+ years of experience in software testing and validation.Other requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or Python OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or Python OR equivalent experience. Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
