Description

The growth of Azure is driven by the Azure core organization which focuses on building a highly scalable, performant, and reliable distributed cloud, to deliver an infrastructure for hosting cloud applications in virtual servers and containers. We create an illusion that resources are limitless, infinitely elastic, and always available. The team owns the core management plane at regional level which is responsible for managing the lifecycle of all Virtual Machines (VMs) in Azure. We are in the process of redesigning this layer to provide extremely reliable and fast on-demand compute instances irrespective of the size and scale of the service (multiple orders of magnitude scalable, faster and reliable than today). We are working on architectural and structural improvements across the entire Azure Core stack. The team in working on a few different areas that will have reduce deployment times and improve reliability to surpass our competition. The approach here is multipronged. It involves algorithmic investments, deep involved architectural/protocol changes to improve parallelization or eliminate steps in the workflow and finally smart innovative solutions to pre-process as much of the work as possible and to be able to do the remaining in seconds to get VM ready for customers. We focus on certain high impact scenarios to enable new businesses on Azure. We are a result-oriented team working vertically through the whole stack to deliver order of magnitude improvements.

As a Software Engineer II in Azure compute you will be able to exercise your growth mindset to identify new ways to solve our critical scale/performance/reliability challenges for our cloud native and mission critical customers. You will be working closely with leaders and customers to define the direction of the product and deliver impact working closely with engineers in the team to develop a large scale distributed software services and solutions. You will be able to provide thought leadership and technical direction with architectural inputs for the team to deliver high quality products. Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features.Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems.Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.Collaborate closely with the customer and other teams in Microsoft to develop and deliver the solutions to the projects. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.Other Qualifications:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.Customer and partner focus - able to understand their needs through a data driven approach.Ability to organize and implement integration tests and resolve problem areas.Experience with online services and Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence (AI).Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
