Have you ever had the challenge of running a cloud service and needing to ensure it stays up and functions? Or wondered how to detect changes in service health and can respond quickly if something goes wrong? These are problems faced by cloud developers every day. Finding and setting up the best observability system have been costly and difficult. Even after data are gathered and a system is set up to process them, it's still difficult to consume and visualize all the data on the screen in a meaningful way. Scanning rows of logs and numbers is certainly not the way to spot issues. Can the right combination of charts, graphs, gauges, gets your attention and helps you pin point the anomaly in your service?

We are seeking a Software Engineer II to joing our team! We are the Azure Managed Grafana team in the Developer Division. Our mission is to bring Grafana, the industry-leading, best of breed data visualization solution, to Azure developers. Partnering tightly with Grafana Labs, we will empower every Azure developer with this powerful dashboarding platform at just the push of a button. As part of the Azure ecosystem, we will innovate and redefine the new standard for cloud service monitoring. Our service frees developers from managing their own dashboard system infrastructure and provides rich capabilities and seamless integrations with other first party Azure services. As part of this project, you will learn and gain experience in many Azure services such as Azure Kubernetes Service, Virtual Machine Scale Set, Load Balancer, PostgreSQL DB, Azure Monitor, and Azure Active Directory. This will be a dev ops game changer and you can join us and be part of it!

You will work with other engineers in the team to design and build a highly secure and highly available large-scaled global service that millions of customers can depend on. You will also

Drive the creation of feature designs and lead design discussions with team members, leverage your expertise to make informed decisions that align with the overall product visionLead and participate in code reviews to maintain a high standard of code quality and consistency across the codebase, provide constructive feedback and guidance to team membersImplement comprehensive unit and functional tests, ensure robust test coverage and reliability of the codebase, and deploy production bits to the Azure environment with a focus on automation and scalabilityEstablish and maintain telemetry to monitor usage and performance, proactively identify and address potential issues to ensure optimal service delivery and customer satisfactionRespond to incidents in a timely manner, work with cross-functional teams to mitigate impact and restore service availability, and contribute to the ongoing operation of the services in a cost-effective mannerContribute to and collaborate on open-source projects, share knowledge and expertise with the broader developer community, and leverage external contributions to enhance our offeringsCollaborate with Grafana Labs to enhance security and enrich features based on customer scenarios, leverage their expertise to drive continuous improvement and innovation in our offerings

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Rust, or Java.OR equivalent experience.Experience with building testable, distributed and highly scalable online services on Azure or similar cloud platform

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.Experience with building testable, distributed and highly scalable online services on Azure or similar cloud platform Detail oriented design, coding, debugging and problem-solving skillsExperience with Open Source Software developmentEffective communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skillsA growth mindset and a willingness to learn new things and take on challengesPassion for quality with customer empathy

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
