Description
The Edge Distribution Services (EDS) team at Microsoft works on innovative digital distribution technology. EDS’ Windows Update service reaches over a billion devices, keeping them secure and up to date. The team is hiring a Software Engineer II to work on our content distribution system that serves Microsoft customers across the world.As a Software Engineer II, you will work in several areas across EDS’ stack, including infrastructure, manageability, content distribution and security. You will get to be involved in the design, implementation, and live site support of your feature areas working with peers, partners, and customers to deliver results. You will demonstrate an ability to learn and adopt relevant new technologies, tools, methods and processes to leverage in your solutions.

Design, develop, deploy, and maintain code and infrastructure used across the system.Improve service fundamentals, including reliability, testing, capacity planning, performance, security, monitoring and maintainability.Participate in on-call rotation and improve in the live-site process and tools.Collaborate with teammates and partner teams to design technical solutions.Leverage, and contribute to, overall team technical knowledge.Build deep domain expertise on global infrastructure deployment technology and processes.Solve problems by leading with customer obsession.
Qualifications
Required QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.2+ years of experience managing and deploying services on Azure and maintaining a large-scale, released commercial service.Experience with SQL and database management systems.Other Requirements
Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements that are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred Qualifications
Experience with DevOps development and live site reliability.Design, coding, problem solving, analytical and communication skills.Knowledge of Microsoft Azure, networking, virtual machines provisioning, cloud computing platforms is preferred.Experience building Distributed Systems with guarantees.Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
