Windows Servicing and Delivery (WSD) team provides high quality service and experiences to keep Microsoft customers secure and productive by constantly building and delivering updates to all versions of the Windows operating system for consumer and enterprise customers.

Windows Licensing and Management team owns the entire Windows Licensing stack and Windows device management infrastructure across client and server platforms. This team heavily works on fixing critical security vulnerabilities and working on the Extended Security Updates support, keeping windows customers secure and meeting the evolving demand of the security space.

The role of a Software Engineer II - Windows on the Windows Licensing and Device Management team is a critical one, involving a blend of technical expertise and problem-solving skills. Windows Licensing and Device Management issues, developing robust fixes, and conducting thorough testing to ensure the highest quality of security features and updates.Ability to build a deep understanding of Windows debugging and internals, become proficient in C/C++.Supports efforts to apply debugging tools and examines logs, telemetry, and other methods to verify assumptions proactively before issues occur and reactively as issues occur for product features. Conducts retrospective debugging of solutions to identify root causes of problems.Reviews code of a product feature to assure it meets the team's and Microsoft's quality standards, is reliable and accurate and is appropriate for the scale of the product feature. Applies feedback to current and future iterations. Participates in code reviews to ensure coding standards are followed. Considers diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability when reviewing code and understands when code is ready to be shared or delivered. Applies and screens for coding patterns and best practices in reviews.Contributes to efforts to ensure the correct processes are followed to achieve a high degree of security, privacy, safety, and accessibility. Checks for visible evidence to demonstrate compliance for product areas. Develops and holds an understanding of the implications of onboarding new technologies following expectations of compliance at Microsoft.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.Experience coding and debugging in C or C++.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Windows operating Systems internals. Background in software development and system design.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
