Overview

The Windows Servicing and Delivery (WSD) organization is responsible for keeping Windows customers secure, productive, and up to date by delivering a reliable and seamless servicing experience across current and future versions of Windows. Within WSD, the Windows Autopatch team builds and operates a cloud-based service that automates updates at enterprise scale.

We are seeking a Software Engineer II – Data Services to join the Windows Autopatch Platform team and help shape the future of modern IT management.

Windows Autopatch is an Azure-based SaaS service trusted by a diverse set of customers, including financial institutions, government agencies, and global enterprises. Devices managed through Autopatch are more secure, compliant, and performant than traditionally managed devices. The Windows Autopatch Platform team plays a critical role by delivering reliable data platforms and actionable insights that power customer reporting and inform Microsoft’s commercial servicing strategy.

As a Software Engineer II, you will contribute to building and operating a scalable data and reporting platform using big-data technologies. You will work on enterprise-grade, compliant data pipelines and help transform complex servicing telemetry into meaningful insights that enable data-driven decisions.

Responsibilities

Evaluate product and business requirements, estimate development effort, and contribute to technical design decisions.Design, implement, and maintain reporting features and data services in collaboration with cross-functional teams.Build and operate scalable, compliant data pipelines that support customer and internal reporting.Leverage AI-powered tools and techniques to accelerate development, improve code quality, and enhance data insights.Resolve outstanding bugs, improve system reliability, and enhance service performance and diagnosability.Operate under Scrum and agile principles, contributing to continuous improvement of engineering practices and processes.Work collaboratively with teammates and partner organizations across Microsoft to actively drive customer and business value.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Scala, or PythonOR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.1+ year experience working with one or more big data or analytics technologies (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Lake, Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Azure HDInsight, Azure Databricks, Azure Cosmos DB, NoSQL services, MongoDB).Strong verbal, written, and cross‑team collaboration skills.Ability to work effectively in a team environment across time zones and with diverse stakeholder groups.Commitment to improving software quality and engineering excellence.Experience with customer success, security (including Zero Trust), and compliance concepts.Proficiency in coding, debugging, and solving complex technical problems.Experience with SQL/NoSQL, data analysis, data visualization (e.g., Power BI), and familiarity with data science, AI, or ML concepts.Demonstrated ability to learn and adopt new technologies and engineering processes quickly.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
