Within Azure Data, the Microsoft Fabric platform team builds and maintains the operating system and provides customers a unified data stack to run an entire data estate. The platform provides a unified experience, unified governance, enables a unified business model and a unified architecture.
The Fabric Graph team is dedicated to simplifying the process of extracting insights from the vast scale of interconnected business data prevalent in every organization. We are driven by our goal to enable all users to visualize, analyze, and enrich the intricate relationships within their business data. Our team is focusing on developing advanced graph technologies that empower users to unlock the full potential of their data.
We are currently seeking a Principal Software Engineer who can define and implement our vision of scale-out graph indices and graph algorithms systems. This role is crucial in enabling large-scale graph analytics for data analysts, business users, and data scientists across all organizations.

You will lead the development of the core components of the scale-out graph engine including the core database index, query processing, and language development stack. You will design, implement, and lead modularization, optimization, testing, repairability and observability of the core system components. You will design and participate in the implementation of appropriate observability metrics and analyze these metrics to improve the quality of decisions. You will input to collecting, classifying, and analyzing complex data. You will steer the team to drive multiple group project plans, release plans, and work item in coordination with the appropriate stakeholders (e.g. project managers). Embody our culture and values
Qualifications
Required/Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript or Python OR equivalent experience 4+ years hands-on experience in development and operations of distributed systems, parallel processing or database systems as an individual contributor OR equivalent experience Demonstrated experience in high-performance compute, low-latency serving or algorithm development. This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications
Experience in Graph high-performance compute. Demonstrated experience of graph database query languages, e.g., OpenCypher, Datalog. Working Knowledge of query planning and execution in graph or non-relational database management systems. Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
