The Commerce + Ecosystems team builds and operates world-class commerce solutions for Microsoft’s customers and partners. The team drives strategic, industry-relevant projects in a dynamic environment, collaborating across engineering and business functions to deliver impactful solutions.

As a Software Engineer, the candidate will design, develop, and maintain robust, reliable, and highly distributed software systems using modern technologies. This role offers broad exposure to technical challenges and the opportunity to make a significant impact on Microsoft’s commercial ecosystem. The candidate will collaborate with stakeholders, contribute to product definition, and continuously improve engineering processes.

Responsibilities

Designs, develops, and maintains distributed software systems using modern technologies.Collaborates with stakeholders to determine user requirements and contributes to product definition and scoping.Codes high-quality software, performs unit testing, and integrates components into larger systems.Diagnoses and resolves technical issues, ensuring maintainable and scalable solutions.Breaks down work items into tasks, estimates development effort, and improves development processes.Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) to monitor system features for degradation or downtime and restores functionality as needed.Contributes to the design and architecture of new services, leveraging AI tools and cloud technologies.

Qualifications

Required QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. Other RequirementsAbility to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience developing and maintaining high-performance, highly available, and reliable services.Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud), scalable web services, REST APIs, and modern UX technologies (Angular, React).Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to enhance engineering effectiveness, with a commitment to continuous learning in Artificial Intelligence.

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
