The DirectML Platform Team in the Core OS organization places Microsoft's best innovations in machine learning and AI in the hands of millions of Windows developers worldwide. The Principal Software Development Engineer DirectML Platform is responsible for driving platform innovations for machine learning across Central Processing Unit, Graphics Processing Unit, Neural Processing Unit (GPU, CPU, and NPU) on various hardware architectures at the scale of the Windows ecosystem. Our platform, built on the DirectML core operating system stack is at the heart of the Windows Copilot Runtime. It helps power countless machine learning workloads from computer visions, audio and video to the latest generative AI models. Our mission is to realize the Windows Copilot+ PC vision and make Windows an AI-first PC for developers by delivering breakthrough technology that will help drive Microsoft's leadership in AI for years to come. We are a learn-it-all team with passion and specialty in designing high-performance systems and tools that leverage cutting-edge hardware capabilities from optimized GPU compute kernels to dedicated AI processor architectures on the NPU and SIMD instructions on the CPU. We are looking for a Principal Software Development Engineer DirectML Platform with deep experience in ML platforms and tools and the desire to make an impact in this fundamental platform shift that AI brings by helping the team to build highly efficient execution engines, frameworks, and tools in a fast-moving but highly collaborative environment. Qualifications
Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Pythono OR equivalent experience.
6+ years of experience delivering world-class system software.Experience working at low levels of software stack, device driver development, and/or integration of hardware and software.Detailed knowledge of developing low-level software on Windows.

These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:Deep knowledge with hands-on experience in Machine Learning (ML) compiler and platform technology.In-depth experience and knowledge in operating system development in either user-mode or kernel-mode development.A proven track record of significant technical leadership in research and development of AI platforms or frameworks technology.Prior experience in the design and development of ML hardware microarchitecture in real-world products.Customer interfacing skills and the ability to deal with ambiguity and prioritize issues.Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
