Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind one of the World’s largest Cloud Infrastructures, responsible for powering all Microsoft online Products and Services as well as powering Microsoft’s “Cloud First” mission. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide, and we are looking for a Site Due Diligence (SDD) Design Manager to help achieve our mission and to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world’s largest online services.

The Datacenter SDD Design Manager will manage the engineering scope, schedule, and budget for greenfield and brownfield sites, with a focus on site due diligence and site selection.  This position will manage internal and external resources for the delivery of the datacenter building, including master planning, feasibility studies, and infrastructure planning to align with Microsoft Corporation datacenter capacity roadmap for the Americas.

The Datacenter SDD Design Manager will be responsible for the facilitation and delivery of Microsoft’s industry-leading datacenter designs, including the development of innovative technology and advanced concepts in site due diligence to be used as the basis for future design. This role will provide design management, technical direction, decision-making and overall leadership for our site due diligence projects. To be successful in this role, the candidate will oversee the delivery of multiple, concurrent SDD projects with a focus on scopes, schedules, and budgets of the projects.  The SDD Design Manager will engage with key MS stakeholder groups within Microsoft, as well as outside vendors who specialize in datacenter architecture and engineering. 

Responsibilities

Coordinate a team of architects, engineers and designers and deliver projects aligned with the defined scope, schedule, and budget.    Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, organize tasks, and lead teams or projects.Proficiency in commercial and industrial architecture and engineering with a primary focus on datacenter design.    Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teams in dynamic environments.Embodiment our culture and values.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years' experience in engineering, construction engineering, or technical program managementOR equivalent experience. 2+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Background Check Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree AND 8+ years’ experience in engineering, architecture, construction engineering, or technical program managementOR equivalent experience.6+ years’ experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects. 8+ years' experience in project management, engineering, specific to construction for mission critical or datacenter enviornmentsOR equivalent experience.Architecture, engineering, and/or urban planning background and experience preferred.

Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
