Description

Azure Edge+Platform [E+P] is responsible for Microsoft’s Operating Systems, IoT and Edge products, Engineering Systems, and Health Platforms that span cloud-to-edge and edge-to-cloud. E+P is the platform team for the company and the foundation upon which virtually every Microsoft product and service, like Azure, Xbox, Visual Studio, Microsoft 365, and Microsoft Teams, is built. E+P products and services enable engineers to build out, deploy, manage, monitor, and secure Azure, Windows, and the rest of Microsoft. Additionally, E+P is responsible for several multibillion-dollar businesses of its own including Windows and Azure Monitor. E+P’s mission is to empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more, meeting them where they live, work, and make decisions – at the edge. 

Engineering Systems [ES] is a team in Azure Edge+Platform that builds and operates the Engineering System for two of the largest businesses at Microsoft: Azure and Windows. We provide our engineers who work on code ranging from Azure Services to Windows and Linux based products, with tools and services to empower them to deliver world-class quality and secure products, with efficiency and high developer productivity, in a fiscally responsible way. This in turn helps enable Microsoft to deliver more functionality, of higher quality, with better security, and do it faster and more economically.  

Join the Windows Engineering Services team as a Service Engineer-2, where you'll take charge of managing code flow and maintaining build quality for the Engineering System. The Engineering System operates one of the largest build systems in the world, responsible for producing not one, but every Operating System used by Microsoft’s product portfolio spanning Xbox, Azure Host, IoT, and Windows Client and Server.  Come build community, explore your passions and do your best work at Microsoft. As a Service Engineer in Build Engineering Services your role will be instrumental in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the Engineering Systems processes while driving improvements preventing regressions in the windows ecosystem. You will have opportunities to be involved in providing organizational area owners with guidance and comms while coordinating with the Engineering System, managing hi priority and release readiness branches, and executing general build delivery and tier 2 build services support.  If you are passionate about technology and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, expanding your knowledge of every growing engineering system and have flexibility for occasional weekend work, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. As a Service Engineer-2, you will be responsible for the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and/or performance of supported products and services. This opportunity will allow you to take ownership of service design by driving reliable, scalable, and high-performance solutions. You will partner and share technical expertise with interdisciplinary teams, demonstrating a deep understanding of services and the ability to clearly articulate the specific technologies of a service to enable development and ongoing maintenance.

You will develop a foundational understanding of service and/or system design, interactions between technology layers and components, functions of infrastructure and dependencies at scale. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineeringOR equivalent experience.1+ years of experience in version control system. Proficiency in build automation systems Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage several critical issues at once.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology,OR related field AND 5+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering,OR systems engineeringOR equivalent experience.1+ year(s) technical experience working with large-scale cloud or distributed systems.Management Information Systems (MIS), or other industry or product specific Engineering CertificationsGood problem-solving skills, with emphasis on quality and engineering excellenceAbility to work independently and in a team environment. Attention to detail and a passion for qualityBatch/perl/C#/powershell/azure/kusto experience

Service Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
