Description

Microsoft has an exciting opportunity to join the Secure Work Area (SWA) Infrastructure and Operations team in supporting our SWA operations and offerings. This team is responsible for end to end deploying and operating a Secure Work Area, including the infrastructure for collaboration within an airgapped environment.

As a Principal Service Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work with engineers who enable a broad set of Azure services to be consumed by internal and external customers in highly secured and regulated industries. The systems, projects, and/or processes you build and manage will be required to meet the security policy and assurance requirements of both public and private sector customers.

Coordinates vendor services delivered to ensure the functioning and secure system of specialized Secure Work Areas while minimizing impact to engineering systems and experience.Builds coalitions of support among teams across organizations to accomplish difficult and large-scale projects, holds self and partners accountable for meeting commitments, and achieves scale in their work by enabling and engaging others. Identifies and resolves misalignments in priorities between teams (e.g., within Service Engineering, across a service) and ensures information is proactively and systematically shared with partners and stakeholders so issues can be resolved and objectives are met.Leverages advanced technical expertise, judgment, and decision making to coordinate multiple work streams and resources in highly complex crisis situations to drive mitigation plan and resolve, reduce, or mitigate the impact of a crisis by engaging necessary teams and escalating to appropriate stakeholders. Conducts root cause analyses and participates in post-incident reviews based on complex incidences/crises for the purposes of leading continuous improvement. Applies diagnostic expertise. Provides guidance to other engineers working to mitigate and resolve issues. Communicates customer impact and other relevant information with key stakeholders, leadership, and customers. Develops and drives projects and programs to improve crisis response by creating standard practices (e.g., processes, standard operating procedures) for consistent response across organizations. Fosters increased service stability. Reduces future noise by participating in optimization of telemetry and alarming. Influences key stakeholders to adopt new standards and practices to broadly improve crisis and problem management across organizations.Leads the implementation of reliable, scalable, cost-effective, high-performance solutions across organizations. Advises on design documents. Owns implementation and rollback plans. Maintains quality checklist and related documentation. Quantifies and ensures the health and compliance of a service according to Engineering and industry standards.Proactively identifies and addresses security vulnerabilities with relevant patches, configurations, and/or settings updates. Identifies, prioritizes, and targets solutions to security issues that require significant and complex mitigation, and suggest and drives the adoption of relevant mitigation strategies. Drives strategic mitigation, appropriate response processes, and remediation for categories of issues across products and/or product features. Develops guidelines, models, and best practices to enable teams to avoid common patterns of issues by sharing technical expertise with interdisciplinary teams. Applies an end-to-end understanding of service design and security to troubleshoot system issues and partners closely with internal customers and engineering teams to conduct root cause analyses, share expertise, and to mitigate and resolve issues. Shapes security policy in alignment with industry standards. Communicates and drives adherence to security policies and procedures.Maintains advanced knowledge and expertise as technology landscape evolves, leveraging industry norms and deep understanding to drive the adoption of innovative solutions across engineering teams working with related products within and across organizations. Provides expert guidance to others through sharing, coaching, conferences, and other means to drive improvements across organizations.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Data Science, Cybersecurity, or related field AND 6+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, systems engineering, or industrial controls OR equivalent experience. Security Clearance Requirements: Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

The successful candidate must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with Polygraph. Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate U.S. Government clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.Clearance Verification: This position requires successful verification of the stated security clearance to meet federal government customer requirements. You will be asked to provide clearance verification information prior to an offer of employment.Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Data Science, Cybersecurity, or related field AND 12+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, systems engineering, or industrial controls OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Data Science, Cybersecurity, or related field AND 8+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, systems engineering, or industrial controls OR equivalent experience. 5+ years technical experience working with large-scale cloud or distributed systems. Service Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
