The Machine Translation team, part of Azure Cognitive Services, builds and runs the translation service that powers translations in Teams, Skype, Bing, Office, and Windows, as well as translation apps on iOS and Android. The service is also used by thousands of companies around the world to translate everything from social media to technical documents.
We are looking for a Senior Researcher to help build world-class machine translation systems. The ideal candidate should be passionate about cutting-edge research in various machine translation areas, such as large-scale models, customization, analysis, adaptation, evaluation, robustness, and efficient training & inference. You will work on achieving the world’s best Machine Translation quality, leveraging all the resources that Microsoft has to offer.

Qualifications

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate in relevant field AND 2+ years related research experienceOR equivalent experience.Experience publishing academic papers as a lead author or essential contributor.Experience participating in a top conference in relevant research domain.1+ year(s) experience developing and deploying live production systems, as part of a product team.
1+ year(s) experience developing and deploying products or systems at multiple points in the product cycle from ideation to shipping.
Ability to define and solve research problems and transfer to production;Track record of publications in MT, NLP, or ML related conferences (e.g., ACL, NAACL, EMNLP, WMT, ICML, NeurIPS, CHI);Candidates with expertise in machine translation, development, fine-tuning, or optimization of LLM training and inference, inference speed optimization, quantization of neural models, CUDA/ROCm GPU programming, NLP model evaluation, web-scale (text) data engineering and processing, and multi-lingual modeling are especially encouraged to apply.Experience in developing and deploying products or systems at multiple points in the product cycle from ideation to shipping.
Experience designing experiments, and you revel in answering questions with data.Proficiency in C++ or Python;Proven track record of open source tools/models is a plus.Research Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
