This position is for a business strategy internship with the Microsoft Health Futures group at Microsoft Research in Redmond (USA). Health Futures is responsible for research, incubation, and strategic partnerships that drive cross-company strategy, as well as value creation in the health and life sciences. We are an interdisciplinary team of researchers, scientists, engineers, biotechnologists, designers, social scientists, strategists, healthcare experts, and medical professionals who endeavor to develop next-generation methods and tools for health and healthcare. We are looking for an intern to join the Strategy & Operations team within Health Futures. Our team drives strategy, manages partnership opportunities, advises on regulatory strategy and compliance, and leads operations across Health Futures. Specifically, we are responsible for guiding the overall strategic vision of the organization, executing cross-functional operations, and leading partnership development in early stages of the project funnel, as well as closely supporting our research teams throughout the duration of their research.

You will be paired with mentors and play a critical role in the success of our current and future program investments by developing meaningful analyses from market and scientific data. The role will require an interdisciplinary approach and willingness to collaborate widely with projects and stakeholders across Health Futures and the broader Microsoft organization. This internship will be focused on our biomedical imaging strategy and partnerships.

Research Interns put inquiry and theory into practice. Alongside fellow doctoral candidates and some of the world’s best researchers, Research Interns learn, collaborate, and network for life. Research Interns not only advance their own careers, but they also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, Research Interns are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other Research Interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community. Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer.

Additional ResponsibilitiesPerform market landscape analysis and contribute to the strategic vision for AI in biomedical imaging.Produce high quality discussion/presentation materials (e.g., landscape assessment, business case, etc.) to facilitate engaging discussions with internal and external stakeholders.Contribute to pipeline management by supporting partnership activities in biomedical imaging. Work closely with technical, research, and business leads in Health Futures to document lessons learned and best practices.



Qualifications

Required QualificationsCurrent enrollment in an advanced degree program (PhD, MBA, MS / MA, etc.) with a graduation date after Summer 2025.Other Requirements

Research Interns are expected to be physically located in their manager’s Microsoft worksite location for the duration of their internship.In addition to the qualifications below, you’ll need to submit a minimum of two reference letters for this position as well as a cover letter and any relevant work or research samples. Preferred QualificationsAt least two years of experience in a healthcare, radiology/imaging, or precision health business or policy setting.General understanding of machine learning use cases in healthcare.Understanding of AI business models and the impact of AI on healthcare systems and workflows.Familiarity with medical device regulatory requirements for software and AI-enabled devices.Demonstrated strategic, analytical, and creative thinking skills.Comfortable working in ambiguous and / or complex environments.Intellectually curious and able to see things from different points of view.Ability to absorb complex technical and scientific information and creatively distill into key takeaways, crisp analyses, presentations, and narratives.Highly collaborative and able to build trusting relationships across multiple stakeholders.Proficient interpersonal skills, with prior experience working across multiple teams and functions, including the ability to effectively support management of stakeholders internally.Proficient verbal and written communication skills.Applied Sciences IC2 : The base pay range for this internship is USD $5,460 -$10,680 per month. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, with the San Francisco Bay area and New York City Metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $7,040 -$11,640 per month.

Applied Sciences IC3 : The base pay range for this internship is USD $6,550 -$12,880 per month. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $8,480 - $13, 920 per month.
