Microsoft has an internal program pursuing topological qubits for large-scale quantum computing. We are also working closely with a growing list of companies to advance their qubit modalities and bring them to market on the Microsoft Quantum accelerator platform.
The quantum product acceleration team is seeking a Principal Quantum Technical Program Manager to drive progress on multiple fronts towards scaling quantum computers. You should want to empower teams both within and without Microsoft to build useful quantum computers. Your job will be to provide both your technical and executional experience to evaluate, improve, and help create key components of a quantum computer's architecture. You will work alongside talented hardware and software engineers---both within Microsoft and with our partners---in a start-up like environment that values speed and people with broad skillsets. As a technical program manager, you will be responsible for both creative technical planning and the “what and why” of projects with demanding customers and complex dependencies.
Solve technical problems creatively and holistically on a key layer of the Microsoft Quantum quantum computer stack.Proactively connect experts within the team to foster and guide cross-team collaboration. Manage tracking of projects for device and component development, including planning, experimentation, data collection phases, and reporting of results. Identify and engage partners to deliver key components and insights to advance technical program. Partner with technical team to determine what work needs to be prioritized to meet the needs of the program. Acquire expert knowledge to apply advanced concepts to influence product/business needs and drive action toward solutions, including engagement with external partners. Produce consistent and accessible documentation of work. Create and drive a realistic schedule and commitments based upon strategy, available resources, and demonstrated capacity of the team as well as future resource planning. Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications:Doctorate in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline AND 3+ years experience in industry OR Master's Degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline AND 6+ years experience in industry OR Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline AND 8+ years experience in industry OR equivalent experience.Experience with fabrication of novel semiconductor structures and chips, knowledge of fabrication processes and the principals of devices for information processing. Lab experience working on one or more qubit technologies, quantum systems and cryogenic systems, or related technical area. Experience performing on or overseeing government contracts and/our working with customers. Experience planning, creating, and managing schedules and budgets for design, prototyping and production of hardware.Other Requirements:

Must be willing and able to travel (domestic and international) to support program activities (25-50%). Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, AND 5+ years experience in industry. OR Master's Degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years experience in industryOR Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND 12+ years experience in industryOR equivalent experience.Proven history of managing successful technology development from R&D to prototypes. Demonstrated ability to identify problem areas, drive issues to closure and ensure solid root cause understanding Able to communicate complex issues and trade-offs to development partners and management Prior experience presenting technical progress reports and building tracking dashboards. Experience overseeing engineering programs and cross-functional teams across multiple geographical locations. Experience with firmware and software development or test and measurement equipment in support of integrated systems testing.
Quantum Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
