Microsoft Quantum has assembled a talented and diverse international team to create the world’s first scalable quantum computing system. Our full-stack approach involves exciting innovation from the physics of quantum devices through scalable readout and control systems based on cryo-electronics. The Microsoft Quantum program strives to fundamentally change the world of computing to help solve some of humankind’s currently unsolvable problems. We are on the cusp of an accelerated effort in quantum computing. This Principal Quantum Hardware Manager position offers an opportunity to have a meaningful influence on a revolutionary technology.The Quantum hardware team is seeking a Principal Quantum Hardware Manager to develop new quantum scalable readout platforms for quantum computing. The candidate will work collaboratively and lead a team to devise and build new instrumentation, embedded systems and architectures towards scale-up of quantum machines.

Lead a team that designs and implements new devices, circuits, instruments, and systems that unlock the capacity to scale readout of quantum computers.Oversee complex quantum machine architecture paradigms and specifications spanning quantum devices to software sub-systems. Assist or lead Microsoft-related engagements with universities, foundries, affiliated vendors, and suppliers as they relate to the needs of the Quantum Engineering team. Develop and deliver projects on budget, working with the Hardware Engineering team to implement procurement processes. As it pertains to the Hardware Engineering team, advise on facilities, laboratory build out, operations, equipment specifications, space planning and equipment installation. Define and manage innovation projects with third party OEMs and applications teams for process module development as well as related equipment/tooling development. Oversee future transition of mainstay processes to foundry operations, including full specifications, and develop integration strategies for modules associated with readout at scale. Qualifications
Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years experience in industry or in a research and development environmentOR Master's Degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years experience in industry or in a research and development environmentOR Doctorate in Physics, Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years experience in industry or in a research and development environmentOR equivalent experience.3+ years people management experience.Hands-on skills in RF measurement techniques (VNA; heterodyne detection; cryogenic amplification) and resonator measurements. Experience operating dilution refrigerators.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with parametric amplification. Experience with semiconductor devices and spins in semiconductors. Design and fabrication of nanoscale devices. Install and wiring of dilution refrigerators. Ability to be flexible and adapt to new situations in a rapidly changing environment. Teamwork and coaching skills. 4+ years experience in experimental quantum science. Proficient in at least one RF readout technique used in solid-state qubit devices (such as RF-SETs, or cQED)
Quantum Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
