Description

Do you care deeply about working with governments to help constituents and advance the digital transformation of countries across the world? This is one of Microsoft's most critical and strategic areas of focus, and we are looking for a leader to lead our engagement with government agencies in the Americas. In this position, you will be working with senior-level officials in government on transformative projects driven by Microsoft technology.

As a Public Sector Industry Advisor (Government), you will help our sales teams and partners to provide relevant, high-quality solutions and services that enable our government customers to drive digital transformation in the Americas. The Industry Advisor will collaborate closely with corporate teams, as well as sales teams in the US, Canada and Latin America, to build trusted relationships with our most important accounts and deliver thought leadership in the government sector.

We’re seeking a purpose-driven professional with a deep passion for public service and a background in sales leadership. The ideal candidate will bring a nuanced understanding of key government segments, including Public Safety & Justice, Public Finance, Government Operations & Infrastructure, and Public Health & Social Services. This role is regionally based in the United States and is part of Microsoft’s World Wide Public Sector team. You’ll collaborate with colleagues across geographies to support strategic initiatives and drive impact. Success in this role requires close cross-functional collaboration with customer account teams, service delivery teams, and public sector and industry specialists to achieve shared business priorities and outcomes.

Planning and Engagement

Serve as a public sector industry advisor in digital transformation account planning, bringing a multi-year strategic perspective to align Microsoft’s capabilities with customer and industry priorities.Engage with internal and external stakeholders—including Key Business Leaders (KBLs), Global Systems Integrators (GSIs), and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs)—to shape account and partner planning and lend industry credibility.Provide thought leadership on global industry trends to activate Microsoft’s strategies in local markets and must-win accounts.Drive stakeholder mapping to identify and engage influential decision-makers, and build relationships that open new opportunities.Partner locally with ISVs to enhance industry knowledge and inform solution development.Participate in iterative planning rhythms with account teams to align on tactics, execution, and orchestration.Ensure alignment with account roadmaps by identifying growth opportunities, cost reduction strategies, and relevant business decision-maker pairings.Accelerate adoption of Microsoft technologies by envisioning long-term customer strategies and driving actions to realize them.Lead multi-horizon planning and develop segment-focused roadmaps based on business and technology priorities.Identify resources and facilitate envisioning sessions to support mid- to long-term transformation plans.Maintain influential relationships with senior decision-makers, define engagement strategies, and understand procurement behaviors.Act as a trusted advisor by applying deep industry knowledge and Microsoft’s point of view to guide executive-level decisions and navigate complex environments.Orchestrate cross-functional teams (V-teams) to execute strategic plays and deliver business value.Opportunity Identification & Strategic EngagementIdentify customer needs and industry readiness to align stakeholders on strategic opportunities.Open new customer opportunities based on industry objectives, best practices, and emerging relationships.Advance high-impact, reusable use cases and envision new product scenarios to uncover untapped market potential.Conduct market research with customers to identify digital transformation opportunities.Originate and drive transformative opportunities in complex business and IT scenarios using industry best practices.Incubate early-stage pipeline opportunities through market insights and customer-specific needs.Solution Development & Value CreationLeverage internal resources (e.g., account team unit (ATUs), partners) to deliver repeatable solution plays and value propositions.Apply industry expertise to craft and refine prioritized services and solutions aligned with customer innovation goals.Develop proposals and solutions that reflect customer priorities and Microsoft’s industry strategy.Create compelling business cases by identifying value drivers, revenue opportunities, and cost efficiencies.Apply deep understanding of customer current and future states to build persuasive business-value cases.Leverage customer success stories to expand solution adoption across their organization.Provide customer references as industry exemplars in novel scenarios.Executive Engagement & Strategic InfluenceRepresent the industry perspective in strategic conversations to help customers envision future integration of Microsoft technologies.Lead strategic discussions with executive stakeholders to design future-state solutions aligned with business goals.Engage with customer executives to model business execution strategies using Microsoft technologies.Act as a trusted advisor, guiding strategic decision-makers with compelling narratives and financial business cases.Define problem statements and envision digital transformation journeys for complex customers.Initiate strategic conversations with internal and customer teams to identify the right stakeholder mix.Sales Enablement & Partnership DevelopmentCollaborate with ATUs and partners to build and convert pipeline opportunities across industry and territory.Influence execution of global strategies at the field level to scale solutions and address customer pain points.Contribute to long-term, market-making partnerships in collaboration with ATUs.Guide account teams to ensure industry representation in internal leadership discussions.Advise account executives and technical leaders on aligning sales opportunities with customer business objectives.Ensure post-sales success by securing delivery alignment and helping customers realize business value.Organize collaboration with ATUs to identify growth opportunities in new and existing accounts.Identify high-impact customer requirements for internal ideation and innovation.Share competitive insights proactively to inform strategy and execution.Collaboration and Partner Management

Leverage relationships with Business Strategy Leads (BSLs), Business Development Managers (BDMs), and Partner Development Managers (PDMs) to plan, orchestrate, and execute customer opportunities.Inform Microsoft’s house of industry through insights gained from strategic engagements.Collaborate with commercial and legal teams to establish formal partnerships.Collaborate with partner teams (e.g., Global Partner Solutions [GPS]) to recruit competitive new partners and support existing ones in understanding industry needs.Drive efforts to identify and engage partners for targeted solutions, articulating the value of building on Microsoft Cloud.Help partners develop and deliver industry-relevant solutions that reflect truth and innovation.Drive engagements with Industry Solutions Delivery (ISD), solution architects, solution sales professionals, and cloud solution architects to design and illustrate envisioned solutions (e.g., pilots, proof of concept, rapid prototyping, minimum viable product).Collaborate with account team units (ATUs) and partners to execute go-to-market (GTM) strategies and jointly pursue customer opportunities.Industry Expertise

Completes required training and proactively seeks additional learning opportunities to deepen industry expertise and earn relevant certifications.Builds and maintains knowledge of Microsoft’s solutions and other industry-relevant technologies and capabilities.Stays informed on industry trends, policy implications (e.g., privacy), and competitive landscape to act as a subject matter specialist and guide strategic decisions.Shares insights across teams and industries to inform product development, address sales blockers, and guide solution strategy.Advises and presents at industry communities, contributing thought leadership and practical recommendations.Supports less experienced colleagues by establishing learning baselines and sharing customer-related insights to enhance team understanding.

There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $170,300 - $239,800 per year.
