OverviewCommerce + Ecosystems (C+E) is responsible for enabling and optimizing the end-to-end customer journey on the Microsoft Cloud.
Commerce Financial Platforms (CFP) team is responsible for Financial Platforms, Global Payments Platform, Employee Financial Experiences, and C+E Compliance, and also develops and operates financial commerce platforms and tools that perform all revenue management functions for our customers, partners, and staff worldwide.
At Microsoft Payments, we believe the payment industry is undergoing significant disruption and we want you to help us extend our payments platform to bring new and innovative ways for customers to interact with our payments experiences.
The payments team sits in the Commerce and Ecosystems (C&E) organization and is the heart of all commerce activity at Microsoft such as Xbox, Office and Azure. We are looking for a Principal Product Manager with deep experience in the payments and fintech domain, and a track record of end-to-end product ownership in fast-paced, high-growth environments. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of customer needs, business strategy, and technical execution, and is passionate about transforming the payments experience.
As a Principal Product Manager in Microsoft Payments, you will define and drive the vision for next-generation payment experiences that delight customers and accelerate business growth. You’ll leverage deep customer insights and emerging market trends to craft a product strategy, champion that vision across the organization, and deliver high-quality solutions at scale. Your ability to evangelize the strategy and product roadmap with senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders will be key to driving alignment and momentum. Execution will span across engineering, design, marketing, operations, finance, legal, business development, customer service, and content acquisition requiring collaboration and influence. You’ll be expected to deliver measurable impact through data-driven decision-making and iterative development, ensuring that every product initiative is grounded in evidence and optimized for customer and business outcomes.

Responsibilities
Analysis of Customer and Market Signals:
Independently contributes to identifying customers’ unmet or unknown needs and market opportunities for enhancements or development of multiple feature areas via quantitative and qualitative analyses and looks for patterns in the data across a portfolio, analyzes security compliance, and scopes the impact and prioritization of a problem.
Performs market or user research through tools such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) in collaboration with the User Research team, conducts competitive analyses, and examines market and industry trends, as well as industry-specific requirements or regulations.
Establishes clarity of patterns of root problems and how they relate with previously seen trends across customers, determines the customers/sectors impacted, foresees future opportunities, and provides research evidence to determine priorities. Ensures product-market fit and alignment between the customer, the market, internal stakeholders, and the goals and strategy of Microsoft. Collaborates with others (e.g., SWE, HWE, Product Marketing, Design, Security Subject Matter Experts) to ensure that they can satisfy customer and security requirements.
Product/Service Development:
Collaborates with partner team to build golden configurations and drives scenario walkthroughs and thought exercises to identify problems, system friction, and needed contingencies in advance of early customer adoption for multiple feature areas. Shares feature previews or roadmap with customers to drive engagement and to gather feedback and customer telemetry in conjunction with others (Business Development, Sales, End Consumers, User Research).
Defines the feature set and partners with Design teams to connect multiple design factors (visual design, user experience [UX], application programming interfaces [APIs], hardware design) to desired functionality and product vision. Generates proof-of-concept designs using Generative AI to explore wider design spaces. Defines AI product scenarios through identification and collection of data sets for training models.
Owns the roadmap for the multiple feature areas. Prioritizes the backlog, works with internal to align on tradeoffs for the multiple feature areas they own, and partners with Product Marketing on the disclosure of the roadmap. Takes in new inputs and adapts as necessary. Starts to build systems and frameworks to enable the team to scale for a product area.
Go To Market:
Evangelizes the feature areas worked on with internal and external stakeholders, partners, analysts, and customers in the industry via presentations, papers, and other forums. Acts as a primary interface with Product Marketing to educate on the product and develop content. Collaborates with Product Marketing, Business Planning, and Engineering to identify product release criteria (including security requirements such as Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) compliance), customer acquisition, usage, retention, and monetization strategies. Creates and drives strategy for taking the multiple feature areas from private preview to public preview and then to general availability.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product management/technical product management OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years of working experience in the payments or fintech domain.Product or technical product management experience held at fast-growing, dynamic, technology company (startup or enteprise) known for good product management discipline

Product Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
