As a key responsibility, a Principal Product Manager must relentlessly pursue alignment, ensuring that every stakeholder, from engineering to design, understands the strategic direction and the "why" behind every initiative. This clarity fuels momentum, empowering teams to move forward confidently and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment. By championing open communication, fostering a culture of innovation, and modeling decisive execution, the Principal Product Manager plays a pivotal role in delivering impactful results and shaping a high-performing team dedicated to building world-class developer tools.

Exhibiting deep empathy for developers is fundamental to driving success and truly understanding our customers’ experiences. In this role, you will collaborate closely with engineering, data science, and design teams to gain a thorough understanding of the needs within our developer ecosystem and the core workflows they rely on. By rapidly iterating and delivering value in the dynamic landscape of developer productivity tools, you will ensure our solutions remain relevant and impactful. Operating with autonomy and a sense of urgency, you will leverage insights from both customers and broader industry trends to guide immediate enhancements and shape long-term innovations for our developer tools and technologies.

We are the team that delivers the languages, compilers, SDKs, testing platform and tools, designers, cloud tools, and the C# developer experiences for the .NET ecosystem.

In this role, you will need to excel at contributing to cross functional teams by working closely with customers and partners using our products. Additional responsibilities include:

Define and continuously evaluate developer workflows end-to-end, partnering closely with engineering, data science, and design on the definition and deliver of experiences across multiple teams within the CoreAI organizationOwn the complete product lifecycle from inception to go-to-market strategies and content Operate with autonomy and, at times, ambiguity needing to provide clarity and energy to your partner teams Ruthlessly prioritize feature work and team focus in alignment with business goals and timelines Effectively communicate project status succinctly and synthesize key learnings for senior leadership briefings Build deep developer empathy by writing code, self-hosting daily builds of developer tools, maintaining zero distance to customers through engagement on various feedback channels, social media, interviews, and user studies. Use product data and insights to understand product behaviors, funnels, retention. Define and run experiments to drive growth. Be the voice and advocate for our developer tools through blogs, videos, livestreams, workshops, customer briefings, and conferences born from a deep understanding of industry trends, competitor capabilities, and our Visual Studio strengths.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product management or software developmentOR equivalent experience.8+ years of relevant software design and development/DevOps experience, preferably specializing in distributed computing or developer platforms 5+ years of technical product management experience Hands-on experience utilizing software development tools and workflows Hands-on experience and depth for how AI-assisted developer technologies operate

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

Technical and business skills to interface with all levels and disciplines within the organization, from engineers to executives   Demonstrated ability to drive clarity and execute in fast-paced, ambiguous environments Hands-on experience with Visual Studio family of tools, GitHub or similarly situated developer tools Public-facing experience representing product narratives and technical depth with community and customers Experience in data analytics defining and working with datasets to discover insights

Product Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
