The Industry Solutions Engineering (ISE) team is a global engineering organization that works directly with customers looking to leverage the latest technologies to address their toughest challenges.
We work closely with our customers’ engineers to jointly develop code for cloud-based solutions that can accelerate their organization. We work in collaboration with Microsoft product teams, partners, and open-source communities to empower our customers to do more with the cloud. We develop solutions side-by-side with our customers through collaborative innovation to solve their challenges. This work involves the development of broadly applicable, high-impact solution patterns and open-source software assets that contribute to the Microsoft platform.
We are hiring a Principal Product Designer to define specific product needs based on user insights to ideate to define solutions to meet user needs and create and develop design concepts and specifications that optimize the emotional and functional experience of a product, software, device, or service. You will collaborate with a cross-functional team of software engineers, technical program managers, and data scientists to work side-by-side with high-impact and strategic customers and their engineers to build innovative solutions.

Responsibilities
You will deliver success through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching, and caring and be responsible for attracting and retaining great people. You will ensure quality by leading interactions with teams and driving QAs while pushing the design agenda forward.You’ll also lead the production of visual designs while overseeing the creation of a variety of visual design documents. You will identify scenarios that will turn into interaction designs. You’ll also direct your teams to improve product UX through the creation of interaction models while acting as a liaison between users and products.You will guide communication with cross-disciplinary teams across all stages of design and development.You will also tell a compelling, convincing product story to a variety of audiences that influences buy-in from key stakeholders. You will lead collaboration with creative team members, program managers, and developers to define product features.You’ll collaborate with leadership and your team to deliver product design results while also providing guidance to product designers and creating clarity for stakeholders.You'll enjoy travel and are comfortable with travel up to 25% You will embody our culture and values
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service designOR Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service designOR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems). Preferred Qualifications
6+ years experience shipping products, services, or games and/or delivering to customers as a result of an end-to-end design process Highly adaptable and energized by ambiguity—able to pivot quickly as priorities evolve in a fast-moving, build-as-we-go environment.Strong creative process and rationale—demonstrates rigorous end-to-end thinking, with the ability to clearly explain decisions, tradeoffs, and the “why” behind solutions.Exceptional storytelling and communication skills—comfortable influencing across disciplines, presenting work clearly, and aligning stakeholders through strong storytelling and crisp documentation.Experience designing solutions for industry-based / external customers—has built products or experiences for a range of customer types and contexts (beyond only first-party/internal product design).Working knowledge of design research—able to plan and conduct lightweight to moderate research (e.g., interviews, usability studies, concept validation) and apply findings to improve outcomes.Comfort operating as a solo design leader in a small or growing org—able to set direction, raise the bar, and establish design clarity as a solo designer supporting an entire studio.Systems-level thinking—can connect the dots across experiences, ensure cohesion, and help define repeatable patterns while building “AI transformational” solutions.Demonstrated partnership with AI in design work—uses AI thoughtfully in real-world workflows (or experiments) to explore concepts, accelerate iteration, or improve craft/quality.Nice to have: Ability to code lightweight prototypes (HTML/CSS)—can build end-to-end interactive prototypes to validate ideas, communicate intent, or pressure-test experiences quickly. #ISEngineering #WSS #productdesigner
Product Design IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
