Description

Overview

Microsoft is a company where passionate innovators come to collaborate, envision what can be and take their careers further. This is a world of more possibilities, more innovation, more openness, and the sky is the limit thinking in a cloud-enabled world.

Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture.

Within Azure Data, the business intelligence team builds and maintains Power BI which is the undisputed leader in BI tool in the industry today and serves as the bridge between data professionals & Office users. Power BI’s core value proposition is to enable end users to get answers & insights from their data through data visualization.

We’re a Power BI Design team shaping AI-augmented modeling and tooling for BI engineers and developer-first experiences. Partnering closely with Product and Engineering, we turn complex data behaviors into approachable, trustworthy workflows. This role uniquely combines design excellence with analytical thinking, using telemetry and experiments to inform decisions. You’ll prototype across Figma, paper, and code, and help scale a design-meets-data practice that strengthens engineering collaboration.

You understand and enjoy designing developer tools-IDE, CLI, and editor patterns-while exploring agentic interactions and speaking the language of code to make sense of data. Your impact will accelerate quality and consistency, ensuring experiences remain inclusive, transparent, and reliable.

You’ll help shape how designers work alongside AI in Power BI, building trustworthy tools that enable developers and analysts to move with speed and confidence, while raising the bar on transparency and user control.

We do not just value differences or different perspectives. We seek them out and invite them in so we can tap into the collective power of everyone in the company. As a result, our customers are better served.

Responsibilities

Responsibilites

Lead end‑to‑end design for AI‑assisted modeling and developer tooling in Power BI—turning complex data behaviors into clear, approachable experiences with high bar for quality and consistency.Ground decisions in real signals by partnering on telemetry, experiments, and evaluative studies; set up reliable feedback loops that improve clarity, context fit, and user trust in Copilot experiences.Strive to understand our users and design to empower them. Flexible with research processes and methodologies to achieve the right outcome. Prototype to de‑risk-from sketches and flows to interactive code prototypes—to explore novel interaction paradigms and align early with PM/Engineering. Make AI involvement obvious and controllable through action‑oriented labels, rationale/visibility, and patterns that support approve/reject best suggestions rather than all‑or‑nothing changes.Operate predictably and transparently: frame assumptions early, surface risks, and maintain a steady cadence of written updates (specs, summaries) that drive shared understanding. Advance inclusive and accessible design and contribute to system patterns for modeling/Copilot so experiences feel native, coherent, and trustworthy.
