Description

The M365 Core Design Studio is looking for a Principal Product Designer to help shape AI-powered user experiences that span the Microsoft 365 ecosystem. In this role, you will drive design strategy and execution for key product areas, applying your deep expertise in user-centered design, systems thinking, and cross-functional collaboration. 

You’ll join a globally distributed team of passionate designers, engineers, and product managers committed to delivering experiences that empower people around the world to achieve more. This is a senior individual contributor role—while you won’t have direct reports, you will lead by influence, set direction, and drive clarity across complex initiatives. 

Success in this role requires the ability to work across a wide network of stakeholders, organizational boundaries, and leadership teams to create coherence, alignment, and momentum across multiple efforts.

Lead the design and prototyping of end-to-end user experiences, focusing on AI-driven solutions across multiple M365 products and platforms.  Define experience frameworks and design systems that scale across screens, scenarios, and user needs.  Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and research teams to deliver high-quality, user-centered outcomes.  Navigate ambiguity and shifting requirements with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.  Drive asynchronous and cross-time zone collaboration using tools and processes that promote visibility and feedback.  Share early work visually and iteratively to generate clarity and build momentum.  Help mentor and support other designers, setting a high bar for craft, innovation, and user advocacy.  Champion the value of design throughout the organization. 



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service designOR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service designOR equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Proven ability to lead cross-functional design efforts independently and collaboratively.  Deep knowledge of interaction design, visual design, and systems thinking.  Proficiency with industry-standard design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and prototyping platforms.  Effective storytelling, presentation, and communication skills—especially in asynchronous formats.  Demonstrated ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and handle multiple workstreams in parallel.  End-to-end problem-solving skills and experience working on large-scale product development.  Experience designing with or for AI and large language models (LLMs).  Familiarity with enterprise or productivity software and search experience design.  Able to work across multiple organizational boundaries and virtual teams.  Proavtiely shares early visual ideas to align stakeholders and gather feedback.  Applies foundational AI concepts to design smarter user experiences.  Drives clarity and direction without direct authority.  Excels in building trust and alignment across disciplines and geographies. 

Product Design IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
