Overview

Join Microsoft as a Product Designer II for Windows and become a high-impact contributor to help shape the future of design for the world’s most popular desktop operating system. As a Product Designer II on the Windows Design Systems you’ll work within a multidisciplinary team to evolve the Windows design language for a new era where AI is seamlessly integrated into daily life.

You’ll collaborate across teams, including Microsoft AI, M365, and Fluent Design Systems team, to ensure scalability, cohesion, creativity, and a high bar for craft as we advance the Windows design language across experiences and devices.

Additionally, you’ll partner closely with Windows feature teams to explore scalable, accessible, and both familiar and progressive design components and patterns that will leave an indelible impact on how people experience the Windows ecosystem. We are looking for a deeply curious and user-centered individual who can successfully navigate the nuances between creative expression and technical consideration while bridging and making connections across dynamic teams. Responsibilities

Collaborate and contribute to the creation, evolution, and maintenance of our component and pattern libraries including controls, color, typography use, iconography, motion, and illustration that aligns with Windows brand guidelines while demonstrating a high level of attention to detail and craft.Participate in design reviews and office hours to gather and/or provide feedback, align on visual language, component and pattern usage, usability and feasibility, and contribute to shared design decisions.Contribute to a cross-functional community of seasoned Design Systems expertise that include other designers, UXE, and Engineers working on shared libraries and systems with an eagerness to learn, iterate, and identify scalable and durable solutions.Collaborate with UXE and/or Engineering and perform QAs to ensure design quality. Under guidance, you’ll also contribute to visual designs by supporting and producing the visual language for systems-wide solutions, storytelling opportunities, and for a product.Explore, advocate, and apply inclusive design principles to ensure components and patterns are usable by diverse audiences across global markets.Engage with feature teams to understand product requirements and translate them into thoughtful, scalable, user-centered design solutions.Proactively learn new design tools, AI-enhanced workflows, and emerging interaction paradigms to expand design capabilities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, UX/UI Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 3+ years experience working in product or service designOR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).2+ years experience with current design tools (e.g. Figma, vibe-coding, prototyping).1+ years experience with creating or managing design systems and toolkits.Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 3+ years experience working in product or service designOR Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 5+ years experience working in product or service designOR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems).2+ years experience shipping products, services, or games and/or delivering to customers as a result of an end-to-end design process.

Product Design IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
