Description
OverviewThe CoreAI Computational Design team is shaping the next generation of coding environments across VS Code, Azure AI Foundry, GitHub, and Visual Studio, while fusing trust-building experiences in concert with the Microsoft Responsible AI team. We are looking for a π-shaped person with experience and awareness in both culture (one leg of the π symbol) and coding (the other leg π symbol), and who thrives moving across the needs of humanity and the power of computation. As coding evolves from a one-way act of writing instructions into a dialogue with agentic systems, we see new possibilities for how software can be built, deployed, and maintained. Our vision is to make this future tangible by designing experiences that feel natural to use, draw strength from scale, and create the sense of working with a true collaborator.
Responsible AI Designer
Within this team, we're looking for designer to help shape how developers experience Responsible AI across Microsoft's CoreAI ecosystem. You'll design generative UI patterns and trust-based interactions that make AI governance feel natural, not like a compliance checkbox. Think: real-time guidance that helps developers build safely without slowing them down—making "the right thing" the easy thing. This isn't theoretical work. Your designs will ship as infrastructure that millions of developers rely on daily.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with PM, Engineering, and Research partners to define and iterate on product features from concept to delivery
Communicate design ideas and decisions clearly to design team, key stakeholders, and organization leaders, providing the right level of context at each stage
Translate user insights and feedback into design solutions, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity
Produce design artifacts across fidelities (e.g., wireframes, journey maps, prototypes, high-fidelity visuals, redlines) using Figma, Vercel, and other AI prototyping tools
Apply and contribute to existing design systems, patterns, and guidelines to ensure scalable and consistent experiences
Partner with developers during implementation to refine details and ensure designs meet specifications
Create quick prototypes to test ideas, gather feedback, and iterate effectively
Stay up to date with design trends, tools, and new technologies, and share learnings with the team
Participate in critiques by giving and receiving constructive feedback to improve team output
Support and collaborate with teammates, contributing to a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented culture
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, HCI, UX, Interaction Design, or related field AND 3+ years of experience in product or service design
OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems)
Preferred Qualifications:
1+ year experience applying AI domain knowledge (including generative AI and AI agents) to real-world product or service design, with an understanding of agentic experiences, their constraints, and how to integrate them seamlessly into user experiences
1+ year technical engineering experience and familiar with HTML, CSS, JS/TS, Python and comfortable with React and/or Web Components
3+ years experience in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite, with examples of high-quality design artifacts produced (e.g., diagrams, wireframes, mockups)
1+ year of end-to-end design process experience, including shipping products or delivering services to customers
1+ year of experience contributing to or maintaining a design system
2 + years of experience in strong collaboration skills, with demonstrated ability to work across disciplines (Design, PM, Engineering, Research)
