Description
The CELA Compliance & Ethics (C&E) organization plays a key role in supporting Microsoft’s mission by fostering a culture of compliance, ethics, and trust. C&E’s work spans world-class legal counseling, risk mitigation, investigations, data analytics, and training + culture. The Proactive Risk Engagement (PRE) team within C&E brings together legal professionals, compliance experts, and data analysts to put compliance on a proactive footing. We work across the company to understand the root cause, scope, and impact of critical risks; we design and implement resilient controls and monitoring systems; we support investigations with data intelligence and build predictive risk models; and we advise on the design and execution of sales channels, incentive programs, and complex transactions. We take a cross-disciplinary, collaborative approach to this work. We are looking for a like-minded legal professional to lead a global team of attorneys executing our Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) proactive counseling and third party compliance practices. In the role of Proactive Risk Engagement Senior Corporate Counsel, Compliance and Ethics.This role can be located in Redmond WA or London.
Lead a global third-party compliance practice, overseeing a team of attorneys working across business segments, first- and second-line controls, and corporate functions. Deliver actionable FCPA guidance to business leaders, sales teams, lawyers, and control owners. Coordinate compliance engagements with our most strategic third-party sellers, with a focus on enhancing the breadth, depth, and maturity of their compliance programs. Negotiate agreements to drive accountability for compliance commitments and improvements. Partner with PRE’s analytics team, C&E’s investigation community, and other compliance functions to assess emerging risk signals and implement mitigation measures. Build strategic relationships to expand our third-party compliance practice, with a focus on addressing significant emerging risks. Brief executive and senior leadership on third-party compliance engagements and outcomes aligned to business objectives. Direct outside counsel to support PRE’s work. Contribute to the advancement of a culture of diversity and inclusion at Microsoft.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum QualificationsJuris Doctor Degree or international equivalent degree AND 6+ years experience as a practicing attorney in a in an in-house legal department, law firm, or government agency and knowledge of the FCPA and other corruption law-related risks and preventative mitigation.OR equivalent experience.Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.Experience dealing with compliance issues involving multinational companies or other large complex organizations, preferably involving third-party risk management, complex transaction counseling, and controls. A passion for complianceManagerial experience preferred. Ability to effectively manage a portfolio of projects and activities across multiple business areas, compliance functions, and geographies.Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across disciplines and seniority levels within a matrixed organization.Interest in incorporating data and analytics into a compliance practice and an open, curious, and growth-oriented mindset.Writing skills and experience presenting to leaders. Legal Counsel M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $141,800 - $248,800 per year.
There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $179,300 - $268,900 per year.
