Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer - HoloLens Display Team

About the role:

The Microsoft HoloLens Display team is currently looking for a Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer. The teams mission is to design world class and inventive AR devices for use in next generation military and first responder market segments. In this role the primary responsibilities will include working with a team of Optical Engineers and scientists to develop and build robust see-thru optical AR glasses. The candidate must be experienced in volume opto-mechanics design and process development.

This role requires ability to work and collaborate on-site at our labs in Redmond, WA.

Developing complex display systems that integrate mechanical and optical components.  Translating optical requirements and sensitivities into mechanical requirements. Equipment, process flow, and supply chain development. Collaboration with partner teams (especially Optics Engineering, ID (industrial design), sensors, and other Mechanical Engineers) to design and integrate subsystems. Develop and evaluate opto-mechanical designs with considerations of tolerance and stability over environmental storage/operation ranges and reliability requirements. Resolving reliability failures through test and analysis. Driving definition of mechanical calibration procedures for various assembly and test stations. Building and execution of test plans to understand and resolve yield, performance, and reliability issues.

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Science, Optical Engineering or related field AND 4+ years related technical engineering experience such as mechanical engineering designOR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Science, Optical Engineering or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experienceOR Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Science, Optical Engineering or related fieldOR equivalent experience.4+ years' experience with product design, including direct demonstrated experience with mechanical assemblies, opto-mechanical design and lab experience. Experience with CAD, Solidworks, Zenax or similar environments Other Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Science, Optical Engineering or related field AND 8+ years related technical engineering experienceOR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Science, Optical Engineering or related field AND 6+ years related technical engineering experienceOR Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Science, Optical Engineering or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experienceOR equivalent experience.7+ years' experience with general mechanical design.Experience with head mounted displays. Demonstrated experience in FEA (Finite Element Analysis) modeling tools, including performing structural, shock, STOP analysis. Experience with complex, tight tolerance mechanical design.  Highly proficient in tolerance analysis of complex systems, including use of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).  Must be able to show examples. Prior experience in designing optical subassemblies, including design of optical mounts (lenses, mirrors, sensors, prisms, windows).  Experience with optical coatings. Electro-mechanics experience: PCBA (Printed circuit board assembly) and FPCA (flex circuit board assembly) development. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.

Mechanical Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
