Overview

The Azure WAN (Wide Area Network) Team is growing and we’re looking for a creative and detail-oriented Network Automation Engineer who can combine networking experience with software development fundamentals. We seek engineers who share our passion and can approach problems from a customer’s perspective, creating user experiences that genuinely enable and empower our partners.

Focusing on the global backbone network and collaborating closely with partner teams in Azure Networking, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and building networking and automation components for the Wide Area Network. You will oversee these components from the initial design phase through development and buildout. Responsibilities

Assists in the design of reliable, scalable, and high-performance network features or components with guidance from other engineers.Contributes to testing and validation of network devices, firmware, and configurations. Defines and implements test cases with existing automation tools.Works within a team of engineers to manage network buildouts and provide instructions to data center or network site staff/technicians on how to repair, replace, and maintain physical network hardware and components deployed in production.Assists in analyzing capacity issues and identifies network components that may need to be modified or replaced with guidance from other engineers. Provides recommended changes to hardware and/or network components to internal teams working with external partners and suppliers to improve capacity.Supports the management of incidents across one or more workstreams by applying technical knowledge to diagnose and triage issues with guidance from other engineers. Takes notes during incidents and participates in post mortem and root cause analysis processes.Shares information across disciplines within their feature team in a timely manner with an appropriate level of detail, and manages dependencies for their work with others.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field OR equivalent experience. Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer ScienceOR related technical field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR PythonOR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.Experience with networking protocols including, but not limited to, like BGP, ISIS, Segment Routing, MPLS.

Cloud Network Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
