To achieve this goal, the Hardware, Infrastructure Management, and Fundamentals Engineering (HIFE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for seasoned engineers with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.
We are seeking a Principal Manufacturing Engineer who can demonstrate technical excellence by driving breakthrough, strategic technical innovation within manufacturing of new products for Azure. Demonstrates a willingness and ability to handle the most technically challenging and strategically impactful parts of the business and defines or adopts industry leading approaches and manages ambiguity through engineering and project management principles. This role will lead groups to scope problems by identifying key issues inputs, stakeholders and outcomes. This role will work across high volume assembly factories, hardware design teams, rack server integrators, and Microsoft data centers. Key opportunities for this role will be to develop and improve manufacturing efficiencies by studying product design, manufacturing methods, and applying LEAN manufacturing principles.
Responsibilities: provide principal level manufacturing leadership from new product introduction to end of life.
Provide insights into current industry/competitive trends within the manufacturing processes. You will validate standards of a variety of established, complex products and identify areas to add value to existing products, manufacturing processes, qualification procedures, and metrology. Influences internal partners and external suppliers or partners to comply with measurement standards and requirements. Write, review, develop internal and external component/sub-component/device/process specifications with key stakeholders. Coach others on how to document complex details about materials, components, and/or functionality for new and complex devices and account for potential compatibility issues. Assess manufacturing partner capabilities and develop continuous improvement strategies to mitigate new product introduction risks in areas such as fabrication of products, components, sub-assemblies, and/or final assemblies and define requirements for measurement tools and processes. Apply expertise through the use of predictive modeling techniques (e.g., tolerance analysis, Six Sigma) to inform manufacturing design choices for complex, new products/assemblies based on current and anticipated qualification or design needs. Lead the detection framework utilizing methods such as New Unique Different/Difficult (NUDD), Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), or Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and oversee the root cause analysis and preventive/corrective actions to ensure internal and external quality control. Develop Manufacturing validation strategy and contributes to engineering efforts across teams to drive continuous quality. Lead the simulation of high-volume manufacturing processes to ensure product can be sustainably mass-produced and a stable mass production process is maintained. Qualifications
Required/Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field AND 10+ years experience in a manufacturing environment/repair
o OR Master's Degree in manufacturing, material, mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering, or related field AND 8+ years experience in a manufacturing environment /repair
o OR 12+ years equivalent experience9+ years’ of experience in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Product Engineering or similar Manufacturing and product design experience5+ years of technology hardware, datacenter architecture, and/or systems integration experience5+ years of hands on factory experienceOther Qualifications
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

OR 9+ years equivalent experience.Patent or track record of engineering excellency.5+ experience in NPI and/or product bring up managing a manufacturing partner/supplier. Manufacturing Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
