Description
Microsoft’s Tech for Society team is hiring a Journalism Director to support work with media organizations, journalism support organizations and product and sales teams.Tech for Society is part of Microsoft’s Trusted Technology Group and works to build and sustain trust with the organizations, institutions and individuals that are foundational to a healthy society. The team works to ensure critical organizations are secure and are building confidence in emerging technology, particularly AI.

The Journalism Director will work closely with stakeholders across the team, company, and externally to help build journalists’ confidence and skills in AI, design partnerships that help local media thrive in a changing technological ecosystem and promote best practices in cybersecurity.
Journalism Community Liaison
Liaise with the journalism community, including local newsrooms, non-profits, academics, and news organizations in order to advance Microsoft’s journalism priorities globallyEstablish new connections within the journalism community (non-profits, academics, and newsrooms) that help to push Microsoft’s work deeper into the communityRepresent Microsoft at public gatherings and events focused on the future of journalism and the news businessOperations
Support partner and vendor relationships, especially within the journalism portfolio, to ensure that Microsoft project requirements are metConduct outreach to potential and existing partners and onboarding new partnersProject Management and Strategy
Design strategic plans with appropriate stakeholders to ensure that the program is delivering impact for Microsoft and news organizations Engage with program/process owners, stakeholders and business partners as necessary to communicate project objectives, strategy, tactics, and ongoing progressSupport day-to-day tracking or project milestones, timelines and outcomesScale and expand existing programsCommunications
Develop and deliver written products and presentation materials that are used to communicate team positions, strategy, and thought leadershipRespond to internal and external stakeholder needs in a timely mannerPublicly represent Microsoft and the journalism program’s priorities at relevant conferences and gatherings. Qualifications
Required/minimum qualificationsBachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance, or related field AND 8+ years experience in program management, process management, or process improvementOR equivalent experience.5+ years work experience in the news business, whether as a journalist, editor, or business operations. Additional or preferred qualifications
Master's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance, or related field AND 12+ years experience in program management, process management, or process improvementOR Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance, or related field AND 15+ years experience in program management, process management, or process improvementOR equivalent experience.Proficient writing and editing skills with the ability to distill large amounts of information concisely. Advanced organizational skills and attention to detail. Knowledge of Microsoft's products/services/applications preferred. Business Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $116,900 - $203,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $148,400 - $222,600 per year.
