Description
Microsoft Discovery is a next-generation agentic AI platform designed to transform scientific research and development (R&D). It was officially announced at Build 2025 and is part of Microsoft’s AI for Science (AIFS) initiative. At its core, Discovery enables scientists and engineers to collaborate with specialised AI agents guided by a graph-based knowledge engine (GraphRAG). These agents don’t just assist—they actively participate in the research lifecycle: generating hypotheses, running simulations, analysing results, and iterating continuouslyWinning partners and customers for Preview is about driving co-innovation and working with the MDQ Engineering team and with customer’s senior leaders in Research and Innovation.
The Global IA for Microsoft Discovery Preview Customers across Manufacturing, Life sciences, Chem and Materials will serve as a thought leader on industry-focused R&D and R&I innovation partners and sales within Microsoft. They will be the Industry subject matter expert in AI transformation working with 5-7 clients as targets for Discovery Preview. In addition to Discovery this role will also scout for other pipeline opportunities in these accounts working closely with other IAs.
This role will proactively build external network of stakeholders, orchestrates early stages of engagement opportunities with strategic target accounts, working closely with the MDQ engineering team. the Discovery IA will engage senior decision makers in R&D and Digital (Head of R&D, CDO, CFO)... and influence them to adopt Microsoft Discovery, working side by side with their teams to scope use cases that will add value to the Discovery Platform, aiming to deepen the industry relevance of the platform as we progress it from Preview to GA in FY26.
The IA will collaborate with System Intergrators and Industry Softwar Platform Partner to carry out competitive recruiting of leading R&D platform companies which will be in target for the advancement of the Discovery Platform. Provides insight and feedback from worldwide counterparts and industry teams to help with best practices.

Successful Preview for Microsoft Discovery Platform
The Discovery IA will have accountability to land 5-6 R&D Preview co-innovation customers by end of FY26 with defined repeatable use cases that will drive vertical value and relevance for the Discovery platform.
Partner onboarding to Discovery
Works with 5-10 partners aligend to Discovery to identify opportunities for data, models and IP to accrue value to the platform. works with MDQ teams to onboard them.
Deep Industry ExpertiseActs as a subject matter expert in pharma R&D and scientific innovation, proactively sharing industry depth, including trends, policy implications, and competitors, providing recommendations on customer's alignment with Microsoft's Discovery Platform development and other R&D data and AI solutions, helping others to make decisions on pursuit or withdrawal, and establishing learning baseline for leaders. Proactively seeks out additional training to build on career competencies and industry specific expertise, including information that adds to the understanding of customers' businesses and strategies, and shares it with team members. Orchestartion and co-innovation planningOwns multi-horizon planning with ATU, Engineering, IPS, MSR and other teams aligned to Discovery: ISE, ISD, ....Creates segment-focused three-horizon roadmaps and scopes co-innovation use cases aligned to the goals of R&D and MSFT Discovery solutions. Drives innovation and commercial accountability based on business and technology priorities, as well as deep understanding of industry, strategy, and market trends. Ensures engagement and positioning of appropriate resources to execute on AI transformation plan to support mid- to long-term Doscovery Platform roadmap. Sales ExecutionIdentifies pipeline opportunities (stage 1-2) in target customers based on their R&D needs and priorities. Ensures qualification and advancement of high-impact opportunities and repeatable use cases and scenarios for reuse across customers and Solution plays. Owns work to open customer opportunities based on industry objectives, best practices, and new stakeholder relationships. Envisions product scenarios that do not currently exist to identify and open white spaces. Works with MDQ and HLS AI product teams toward those solutions. Accelerates solution plays with an industry and partner arrative by leveraging industry expertise and drives innovative, emerging net new opportunities based on industry trends. Leverages internal resources (e.g., account team unit [ATU], partners, DD, SPT, ISE, ISD) to define customer business value, shape the commercial proposal for Discovery partnership and co-innovation development, and promote a vision that aligns with customers' needs and objectives, innovation-centered initiatives, and Microsoft's cloud and solution area priorities.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum QualificationsMaster's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Health or Chem and Materail Sciences as well as Energy and Resources, Supply Chain Business or related field AND 3+ years customer-facing experience in operations, enterprise-level improvement program management, product management, transportation, hospitality, automotive, consumer goods, financial services, retail, management consulting, consultative selling, public sector, technology or industry-relevant equivalent management or technical work experienceOR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Health Sciences, Supply Chain, Education, Business or related field AND 5+ years customer-facing experience in operations, enterprise-level improvement program management, product management, transportation, hospitality, automotive, consumer goods, financial services, retail, management consulting, consultative selling, public sector, technology or industry-relevant equivalent management or technical work experienceOR equivalent experience.5+ years experience in data platform capabilities and industry research architect platforms working with Scientist and Technologist for R&D initiatives. Industry Advisory IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $107,600 - $187,500 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,600 - $205,600 per year.
