Description

Join a dynamic team at Microsoft, empowering the people that empower the planet!  The Human Resources (HR) team in Microsoft Corporate Functions, specifically supporting Corporate Legal and External Affairs (CELA) is currently seeking a Senior HR Director to lead our global strategy focused on talent management, employee engagement and organizational development.   

We are looking for an HR leader who has a demonstrated track record of organizational and team leadership, management capability, and achievement of business outcomes accomplished by cultivating credibility with senior leaders, the application of sound judgement in a complex global business and the ability to influence across a highly matrixed organization.    

This HR leader will influence the development and direction of the people strategy and direction of CELA. This role drives results through organizational diagnostics, talent management, and leadership performance, organizational effectiveness, and culture.  The HR Director will exhibit strategic thinking, along with a proven track record of collaboration and change leadership in fast-paced, global environments. They will facilitate change management processes, and foster a culture of innovation and inclusion to contribute to the overall success and sustainability of the business. This role will lead and manage a team of HR Business Partners, supporting this critical work across CELA. 

This role guides leadership through change and creates effective business strategies. The HR Director will use advanced HR insights and analytics to design holistic people plans, talent management solutions, and culture initiatives. They will develop succession and talent plans, ensuring alignment with business goals. In addition, the HR Director manages employees' growth, performance, and project execution. 

This role is based in our Redmond, WA office.

Business Partner Leadership: 

Analyzes data and interprets metrics to derive insights to connect leadership effectiveness to business performance. Provides strategic insight for leaders, leverages business understanding to connect leadership effectiveness plans to achieving business outcomes. Conducts diagnostic assessment of leadership effectiveness, identifies gaps in strategy execution and makes strategic recommendations to achieve results.

Contracts for and provides executive coaching at senior levels of the organization to improve leadership capability.

Organizational System:

Conducts organizational assessments to align all parts of the organizational system to strategic goals to achieve desired business results. Provides recommendations about creation of strategy and goals, leverages data for insights to influence the creation of business plans. Interprets data, identifies trends/themes, and presents trends to senior leadership. Makes connections with the business as well as the broader system and HR community to identify if issues are systemic or acute. Leads design of organizational planning (e.g., talent, structure, culture, process) and measures effectiveness. Establishes communications across teams to inform cross functional business stakeholders of internal change.



Talent Management:

Collaborates with business leaders to identify business priorities, assesses current and future talent needs and develop critical skills and meet business needs. Creates, implements, executes and measures People strategy. Partners with business leaders, Talent Management & Acquisition partners to understand internal and external talent landscape, recruit, assess and develop needed skills and capabilities. Partners across organizations to share and understand how talent within own organization relates to and impacts the broader talent landscape.  

Influencing For Change:

Utilizes change management, storytelling, AI fluency, and executive relationships to enact transformative shifts, leveraging narratives and technological understanding to build influential alliances and drive effective organizational change. Integrates diverse skills to inspire, communicate, and foster relationships that catalyze and sustain meaningful change within an organization.  

Problem Solving:

Utilizes systems thinking, decision making, and creativity to dissect complex challenges systematically, fostering innovative solutions to address root cause of issues. This involves a holistic approach to navigate diverse problem landscapes, encouraging adaptive strategies and inventive resolutions for sustainable outcomes.  

Judgement:

Uses the ability to compare, contrast, and analyze data, people, situations, etc., to formulate a valid conclusions.  Identifies issues, connects with appropriate stakeholders for insight, generates options, analyzes best possible solutions, and makes decisions to implement solutions.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field AND 6+ years experience in human resources or related processes (e.g., hiring, training, performance management) OR Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field AND 9+ years experience in experience in human resources or related processes (e.g., hiring, performance management) OR equivalent experience. 5+ years people management experience. 5+ years of experience partnering with a wide network of clients and across human resources to deliver effective business solutions.  

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field AND 12+ years experience in human resources or related processes (e.g., hiring, training, performance management) OR Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field AND 15+ years experience in human resources or related processes (e.g., hiring, performance management) OR equivalent experience. Human Resources Professional Certification (e.g., PHR, SPHR, SHRM, CIPD). HR Business Partnership M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.
