Description
M12, Microsoft’s venture capital fund, is not your typical Corporate Venture Capital (CVC). We are backed by one of the world's leading technology companies, Microsoft, and we leverage its resources, network, and expertise to support our portfolio companies. The Portfolio Development team at M12 aims to provide our portfolio companies with growth opportunities and access to Microsoft’s ecosystem.In this role, you will lead a team responsible for driving strategic impact for our fast-growing portfolio of startups. You’ll identify, develop, and execute business strategy initiatives and programs with a focus on delivering joint commitment and mutual success for Microsoft and our portfolio.
As the Head of Portfolio Development , you will use your experiences to help our portfolio companies leverage the full range of Microsoft assets and ecosystem resources to accelerate their growth. This will be accomplished by developing a deep understanding of the portfolio companies‘ needs, and then aligning those needs to Microsoft’s strategic initiatives, internal product teams, and customer priorities. This is an incredibly important function as successful execution is what will help distinguish our team from other venture funds and corporate investors.
This is a full-time position in Redmond. This role typically requires 10% travel.

Developing in-depth knowledge of the portfolio companies’ business models and priorities, including growth strategy, objectives, plans for readiness, marketing, services, and sales.Collaborating with portfolio companies to translate their business and product goals into successful partnerships with Microsoft and our ecosystem of customers and partners.Supporting extended team members in contributing to M12’s core thesis areas and related portfolio coverage models. Meeting with industry partners, industry analysts, and other resources across the ecosystem to grow M12’s reach on behalf of our portfolio companies.Experimenting with new ideas, programs, and projects that innovate how we support our portfolio companies and deliver more value at scale.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Sales, Marketing, Business Operations, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years partner management, sales, business development, product management engineering, marketing, human resources, or partner channel development in the technology industry experience
OR equivalent experience.
6+ years of relevant professional experience with some exposure to and/or knowledge of the startup ecosystem.
1+ years of leadership experience.Additional or Preferred Qualifications
7+ years of People management experience.Experience working at a startup and/or with entrepreneurs. Proven experience in all of the following: structuring partnerships, defining go-to-market strategies, leading new programs/projects, or delivering insights to senior executives.An understanding of how large corporate enterprises operate (e.g., processes, systems, and strategies).Strategy consulting experience with enterprise clients or partners.Experience working on projects related to corporate innovation and incubation. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft's platforms and processes, including product and partner strategies.Experience with building channel partnerships and new product integrations.Portfolio Development M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $129,200 - $248,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $162,000 - $268,900 per year.
