We are looking for a Principal Group Engineering Manager with a passion for delivering well-designed, scalable, and reliable products and services, a genuine desire to lead, guide, and mentor other engineering managers, and a deep technical aptitude. As part of this role, you will collaborate closely with multiple teams across Microsoft to deliver key customer solutions and the technology to support them.

As a Principal Group Engineering Manager, you will lead your organization to develop a world-class customer-centered products and services. We are in a unique position to empower all of Azure to make precise data driven decisions with the data our services manage. You will work with Azure CXP Program Managers, Data Scientists, and other Azure engineering teams as well as the Field and Support organizations to define and deliver critical products to support Azure teams and customers. This role provides an exciting opportunity to work with experts across all levels of Azure’s cloud technology stack.

Some responsibilities include:

Leads team to design and develop high quality, robust and manageable products and services that deliver immediate customer business value and can evolve to meet future business needs.Oversees, influences, and owns design discussions for the overall system architecture of entire products/solutions.Provide technical leadership across service fundamentals including reliability, scalability, maintainability, security, and performance.Demonstrates deep understanding of effects of solutions to ensure appropriate security and performance, driving reliability in the solutions, and optimize dependency chains across teams.Leads the refinement of products through data analytics and makes informed decisions in engineering products through data integration.Builds and maintains partnerships, driving collaboration with key partners to drive technological integration and product adoption.Monitors project status and communicates project progress across teams.Leverages feedback channels to incorporate insights into future designs or solutions. Guides the incorporation of feedback to measure customer value, usage patterns, and other actionable metrics of value.Lead, guide, and mentor engineering managers and senior engineers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

OR equivalent experience.4+ years of experience in large scale distributed systems and cloud technology stack such as Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS)Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer ScienceOR related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,OR PythonOR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.4+ years people management experience.Experience with implementing large-scale distributed software services, modern DevOps practices (including Git, CI/CD, Azure DevOps) and cloud-based delivery models.Architectural and technical system design skills and experience.Proficiency in computer science concepts including data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns. Effective communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to develop key partnerships across teams and organizations.Proven leadership skills, with the ability to effectively drive a team of software engineers.Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
