OverviewJoin Microsoft’s Consumer Margin & AI Cloud team, where we drive financial and operational excellence across our AI and Cloud portfolio. This role sits at the intersection of finance, technology, and strategy, enabling Microsoft to deliver world-class cloud services while optimizing gross margins and accelerating innovation in AI.
As part of this team, you will:
Shape margin strategy for consumer and SaaS workloads, influencing engineering decisions and pricing models to maximize efficiency and profitability.Partner with business leaders and engineering teams to develop long-range goals for AI and Cloud, including GPU utilization, silicon roadmap optimization, and cost reduction initiatives.Build and analyze financial models to assess new cloud initiatives, provide actionable insights, and support executive decision-making.Drive compliance and consistency across financial processes, ensuring alignment with corporate policies and reporting standards.Communicate complex concepts clearly, using data storytelling to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.Why This Role MattersYou’ll help optimize Microsoft’s AI and Cloud platforms, influencing product excellence and cost efficiency.Your work will directly impact pricing strategies, engineering roadmaps, and global cloud expansion, making this a high-visibility role with executive-level exposure.
Responsibilities
PartnershipDevelops new approaches to leverage best-in-class technology (e.g., Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Predictive Analytics etc.) to accomplish goals. Contributes to efforts to implement technology to increase productivity (e.g., report optimization) and to ensure accurate conclusions.Integrates varied data sources and assimilates the information into a comprehensive, clear narrative. Communicates results in a compelling, timely, and understandable message through storytelling. Articulates understanding and awareness of business partner situations.Develops and leverages relationships with business partners to bolster sales, and to understand and manage business risk. Designs and negotiates solutions to complex financial issues with business partners. Collects customer and partner feedback data and applies data analysis techniques to improve experience. Serves as an advocate for Microsoft and its partners. Manages balance between customer centricity, enablement of sales, and cost-effectiveness.Provides business insights and recommendations to peers and stakeholders to achieve financial goals (e.g., resource allocation, cost optimization, revenue management, trends, and future requirements) and drive shareholder return. Collaborates with business leaders to define action plans for financial and business analysis findings. Manages and executes processes through engagement with internal and external stakeholders.Applies advanced understanding of Microsoft Finance (e.g., financial systems, policies and procedures, key metrics, historical performance, reporting, and forecast requirements) and business (e.g., market dynamics, key metrics, Finance and Accounting reporting requirements, rules, and regulations; accounting, and control strategy) to multiple contexts and situations to evaluate results, financial models and forecasts, and to complete all filings and reporting. Develops and manages strategies to proactively mitigate, or reactively address, potential adverse effects of macroeconomic and/or geopolitical risks. Assesses potential impacts of changes.PrioritizeContributes to new and unconventional methods and approaches to data collection, analysis, interpretation, and financial models. Provides advice and direction in evaluating suitability and reliability of data, articulate limitations, and propose solutions on data management and operations. Reviews recurring financial statements, reporting, forecasts and presentations. Identifies trends, and formulates action plans. Determines financial results (e.g., revenue, COGS, OPEX) and conducts variance analyses. Identifies causes and solutions. Collaborates to ensure execution of plans and accountability for results.Determines operating revenue and expenses and conducts variance analyses. Identifies causes and recommendations. Contributes to resource allocation and identifies opportunities for optimization and prioritization. Performs analysis, modeling, and research of present and future financial performance, financial plans (e.g., expected returns, resource allocation, pricing, investment opportunities, revenue, operational metrics, productivity metrics), and economic transactions (e.g., customer deals, commercial partnerships, acquisitions).Assists in the execution of annual business planning and forecasting process. Completes analysis, modeling, and research to support preliminary and adjusted forecast cycles. Assists with developing and testing financial models. Partners and solicits insight from business and commercial stakeholders. Develops and manages financial plans, budgets, and forecasts to support strategic decision-making.ProtectReviews, analyzes, and interprets financial and budgetary reports to ensure accuracy and support of internal controls. Monitors control processes and procedures regarding accounting, stat, non-financial disclosures, and regulatory filings. Recommends and executes corrective measures.Ensures collaboration between business stakeholders and internal audit team. Meets with internal and external auditors to discuss audit procedures, respond to questions, and provide information and records.Manages accounting and financial compliance, including the collection of data, accurate record-keeping, and coordinating with local Finance, Regional, and Corporate teams to implement accounting and reporting processes and ensure compliance with local legislations and statutory requirements. Advises and consults with peers and stakeholders regarding documentation, policy adherence, and sharing of financial data and information to minimize risk. Understands and adheres to financial compliance standards, Microsoft privacy, security, and ethical standards. Translates accounting, statutory, and regulatory changes to address impacts on business operations. Where appropriate, reviews all reports and filings for all country, federal, state, and local regulatory agencies (including US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings and disclosures). Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 4+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field OR equivalent experience ORMaster's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 2+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field Additional or preferred qualificationsMasters Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 6+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership, or finance work experience OR Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 8+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance work experience OR equivalent experience.1+ year(s) experience in multinationals with multi-product/multi-segment finance roles.1+ year(s) work experience in matrix-based organization.1+ year(s) work experience in the technology or software industry.
Financial Analysis IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $96,500 - $188,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $123,500 - $206,400 per year.
