As part of AE+P, the Microsoft Observability Platform and Experience engineering team is responsible for both the external and internal observability product offerings.  These services enable customers to monitor, detect, troubleshoot, and mitigate issues with their services. Azure Monitor is our product family and includes Log Analytics, Application Insights, Container Insights, Hosted Prometheus, and more. Additionally, Log Analytics is the platform upon with Microsoft Sentinel and Microsoft Standard Logging Platform is built. We have a >$2B dollar business that is growing rapidly. We also run some of the world’s highest scale observability services for Microsoft internally, processing over 1 EB of logs daily and tracking over 100 billion active metrics.  Our aim is to enable autonomous, integrated systems infused with AI/ML to proactively measure, monitor, detect, alert, diagnose, and mitigate health issues before they impact customers.  



As a Principal software engineering Manager on the telemetry ingestion pipeline, your responsibilities will include designing and implementing new features to support customer requirements as well as continuously improving the quality and reliability of services responsible for the ingestion of customer data with low latency to end-user defined destinations.  The pipeline boasts support for latest protocol and encoding formats widely supported in the industry. You will play a critical role in carrying forward that legacy with cutting edge technology. The pipeline teams support many of Microsoft’s largest external customers as well as most major Microsoft teams, including Windows, Office, Xbox, and Minecraft.

As a Principal Engineering Manager of our team, you will lead design and code of low API’s and libraries for Exabyte scale ingestion and reviews of the same across feature areas and participate in all stages of our engineering lifecycle (initial research and discovery, quick iteration on promising concepts, solution prototyping and development, deployment and live site support).



Developers in the team are expected to wear multiple hats and demonstrate breadth, depth, and leadership. You will work with multiple partner teams and deploy across all Azure regions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, OR C#OR equivalent experience.5+ years of experience developing and debugging live scalable and reliable cloud services. Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications :

Strong design, coding, problem solving and analytical skills. Passion for customers and focus on delivering delightful customer experiences. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to effectively collaborate across teams and ship production features in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of Microsoft Azure, AWS or similar cloud computing platforms. Experience creating, developing, delivering, deploying, and maintaining online services. Prior experience working on C# / .NET Core, or building services hosted on Service Fabric. Hands-on experience building and maintaining REST microservices or with Open Telemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, or related technologies. Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
