The Purview for A365 Principal Engineering Manager- Squad Leader is an L67 people manager with end-to-end accountability for a defined set of customer and business outcomes. This is a multidisciplinary leadership role spanning Engineering and Product Management, responsible for setting direction, driving execution, and delivering measurable impact. The Squad Leader leads a cross-functional squad (≈10–12 engineers and 1 PM), with alignment across UX, CXE, Research, and Trust partners. The role is empowered to make fast, high-quality decisions in service of the squad’s goals while aligning with broader Purview, Security, and A365 strategy.

Responsibilities
Product & Business Ownership:Own the product vision, roadmap, and success metrics for Purview capabilities in A365.Translate customer, market, and ecosystem insights into clear priorities and measurable outcomes.Drive product adoption, usage, and customer satisfaction.Engineering & Execution Excellence:Lead end-to-end delivery across planning, build, release, and live site.Uphold excellence in security, privacy, compliance, quality, reliability, accessibility, and COGS.Ensure disciplined RoB execution including roadmap, KPI/bowler updates, and security/compliance follow-ups.People Leadership:Manage and grow a high-performing, inclusive team across engineering and product.Coach, develop, and retain top talent; set clear goals and expectations.Model Microsoft leadership principles: Model, Coach, Care. Cross-Functional & Cross-Squad Leadership:Partner closely with UX, CXE, Trust, PM and Engineering peers to deliver cohesive end‑to‑end experiences.Drive alignment across squads where work and metrics are interdependent.Serve as the single-threaded owner and primary point of escalation for the squad.Stakeholder Communication:Clearly communicate strategy, progress, risks, and tradeoffs to leadership and partners.Build trust and alignment with internal stakeholders and customers.Champion transformational change: Drive the successful adoption of the Purview buisness, Envision and set bold strategic direction, Uphold and advance excellence in Fundamentals, Drive exceptional product adoption and satisfaction, Forge deep, strategic customer relationships
Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
Additional or preferred qualificationsMaster's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 15+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.6+ years people management experience.Experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering and product teams.Background in software engineering and product development, with ability to engage in architectural and strategic discussions.Proven track record of delivering complex, secure, enterprise-scale services end to end.Experience in security, compliance, data governance, or cloud platforms preferred.Exceptional collaboration, prioritization, and decision-making skills in a matrixed environment.
Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
