Description

Microsoft Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO&I) seeks a new Energy Lease Program Manager, focused on datacenter leases for the Americas region. The candidate will manage a portfolio of activities to optimize and execute opportunities in datacenter energy supply and technology, including: support site selection efforts, lead energy sourcing strategy, represent the Americas Energy team in contract negotiations with lease providers, develop business cases for new engagement strategies to meet sustainability goals, communicate project needs, forecast and manage energy costs and risks, and manage relationships across key internal and external stakeholders.

The candidate will have the ability to develop creative solutions that combine knowledge of regulated and deregulated power markets to deliver solutions in Microsoft’s leased datacenters. In addition, the candidate should be capable of developing commercial agreements with colocation providers and energy suppliers. The candidate will need to broadly understand the dynamics of energy markets and Microsoft’s own unique position in the energy sector. This necessitates that the candidate brings an innovative, collaborative presence to the role to drive commercial and technology execution and realize business goals, lower costs, and meet sustainability targets.

Participate in due-diligence and contract negotiations with colocation providers to secure fair and cost-effective energy terms based on Microsoft energy lease principles.

Collaborate with colocation providers to develop innovative partnership strategies to meet Microsoft’s ambitious sustainability and carbon reduction goals.

Regularly review and analyze energy invoices from colocation providers and their utility providers to track costs and identify cost savings opportunities for Microsoft.

Assist with datacenter interconnection and energy supply contract negotiations with utilities and third-party energy suppliers.

Build relationships with external suppliers and partners, particularly electric utilities, local and regional regulatory agencies, customers, and energy technology providers. 



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Law, Policy, or related field AND 3+ years experience in the energy industry, project management, business development, or related role  OR Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Business, Engineering, Law, Policy, or related field AND 4+ years experience in experience in the energy industry, project management, business development, or related role OR equivalent experience.Thorough understanding of datacenter colocation and contract structures.

Experience negotiating business agreements and creating win-win scenarios.

Comprehensive understanding of the power industry

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Law, Policy, or related field, and 8+ years experience in the energy industry, project management, business development, or related role  OR Master's Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Business, Engineering, Law, Policy, AND 6+ year(s) experience in the energy industry, project management, business development, or related role 

OR equivalent experience. .

Demonstrated growth mindset with problem-solving skills.Experience developing or negotiating large customer retail rates.Experience negotiating energy provisions in datacenter leasing contracts.Experience negotiating power agreements. Sourcing Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
