Overview

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team is responsible for the full lifecycle management of Microsoft’s global datacenter infrastructure, supporting the delivery of reliable, secure, and sustainable cloud services for Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and the expanding Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform.

As part of the CO+I Energy Team, the Associate Program Manager, Energy Cost Optimisation role supports a portfolio of energy related commercial and operational activities focused on reducing energy operating expenses and improving cost transparency across Microsoft’s leased datacenter portfolio in Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

This role provides program coordination and analytical support across energy supply activities, cost savings initiatives, and supplier engagement, working closely with cross functional stakeholders including Finance, Legal, Sustainability, Engineering, and Site Acquisition. The position offers early career exposure to hyperscale energy markets, commercial operations, and cross functional program delivery in a global environment.

Responsibilities

Energy Supply Agreement (ESA) Support

(Energy Supply Agreements – commercial contracts for electricity supply to datacenters)

Assist with the preparation, coordination, and administration of Energy Supply Agreement tender processes, including data collection, documentation control, and submission tracking.

Support supplier clarification management and maintain pricing comparison trackers and evaluation documentation.

Maintain structured records of Energy Supply Agreement materials, pricing logs, and evaluation outputs to support internal governance and audit readiness.

Cost Savings and Commercial Analysis

Support the identification and validation of potential energy cost savings through analysis of invoices, tariffs, and passthrough charges.

Maintain Energy Cost Optimisation savings trackers and supporting documentation for internal reporting and governance requirements.

Prepare summary analyses, data extracts, and draft materials for leadership and Finance review.

Lease Energy Cost Transparency Support

Support energy related data requests for leased datacenter sites, including supplier pricing structures, consumption data, and key cost drivers.

Assist with follow-up coordination with suppliers and internal stakeholders to clarify discrepancies or data gaps.

Maintain organized records of energy related lease information and review outputs.

Program Coordination and Operational Excellence

Coordinate meetings, agendas, action tracking, and follow-ups across Energy Cost Optimisation workstreams.

Maintain high quality documentation, consistent file structures, and version control across programs.

Contribute to the development and improvement of internal playbooks, templates, checklists, and reporting tools.

Support ad hoc research, benchmarking, and data cleanup activities as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Energy, or related field.

Demonstrated organizational skills with strong attention to detail.

Comfort working with spreadsheets, structured data, and commercial documentation.

Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders and workstreams.

While not required, we also look for the following Preferred Qualifications:

Experience supporting operational, commercial, or analytical programs in a cross functional environment.

Interest in energy markets, utilities, sustainability, or infrastructure operations.

Experience using Microsoft Excel, Power BI, or similar analytical tools.

Ability to summarize complex information for nontechnical audiences.

Demonstrated growth mindset with structured problem-solving skills.
