Overview

Microsoft’s Digital Marketing organization is seeking an innovative, results-driven Director of Business Management - Digital Marketing and Media to support the Vice President (VP) of Digital Marketing and Media. This role sits at the heart of how Microsoft connects its marketing messages to global consumer and commercial audiences through digital experiences, paid media, creative excellence, and integrated storytelling.

The Digital Marketing and Media teams lead Microsoft’s global paid media strategy, manage relationships with our media and creative agencies of record, and drive digital engines across owned channels that fuels business growth. This role is critical in ensuring operational excellence, enabling strategic clarity, and driving cultural cohesion across these highly visible, fast-moving‑ teams.

As a key member of the VP’s leadership team, the Director of Business Management acts as a strategic advisor and operational leader — responsible for business performance, budget management, organizational rhythm, and cross team execution. Responsibilities

Business Operations

Architect, manage, and evolve the Rhythm of Business (ROB) for the Digital Marketing and Media organization.Lead strategic planning processes, providing business insights that drive decision-making and predict business outcomes.Partner with leaders to define priorities, build operating frameworks, and execute strategic objectives.Lead business review cadence, ensuring effective preparation, follow-through, and alignment across stakeholders.Ensure compliance and privacy standards are met across the team’s processes, tooling, and operations.Strategic Execution

Translate the VP’s strategic priorities into clear operational plans and drive execution across the organization.Establish and maintain KPIs (key performance indicators) and OKRs (objectives and key results) in alignment with business strategy, proactive tracking, and reporting progress.Drive alignment across cross functional groups, surfacing risks early and creating unified execution plans.Develop the organization’s budget in partnership with Finance and guide forecasting, investment decisions, and resource planning.Lead headcount strategy, organizational design, and long-range planning that supports future growth.Executive Enablement

Act as a strategic advisor and thought partner to the VP, providing insights, counsel, and organizational perspective.Serve as a proxy for the VP as needed to accelerate execution and maintain accountability across the business.Build relationships with leaders, internal partners, and external stakeholders to advance the business agenda.Organizational Health & Culture

Champion team culture, onboarding programs, and retention-focused efforts.Analyze organizational health metrics (e.g., Microsoft Poll), identify trends, and lead response plans.Drive completion of compliance and role-based training and ensure the organization maintains a compliance scorecard.Identify development areas across the team and partner with Human Resources and Leadership Teams to deploy training and career growth initiatives.Special Programs & Cross Team Initiatives

Lead complex, cross organization projects aligned to strategic priorities, including digital transformation, media innovation, leadership forums, and ‑enterprise-wide‑ programs.Create clarity in ambiguous or emerging areas, defining scope, success metrics, and execution plans.Drive strategic innovation, experimentation, and pilots that advance Microsoft’s digital marketing organization.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

7+ years business management, operations, financial management, strategy, project management, HR (human resources), or related experienceOR equivalent experience.Additional or preferred qualifications

12+ years product management, strategy consulting, finance, business/corporate development, or related experience AND Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Computer Science, Economics, Business, or related field OR 8+ years product management, strategy consulting, finance, business/corporate development, or related experience AND Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA), or related field OR equivalent experience.Demonstrated success in executive level‑business operations, strategic planning, budget management, and organizational leadership.Proven track record driving cross functional initiatives in fast paced environments.

Business Planning M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $251,900 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $272,300 per year.
