Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the organization that builds, operates, and continuously evolves the infrastructure behind the Microsoft Cloud, powering services used by more than 95% of Fortune 500 companies. CO+I is responsible for the full datacenter lifecycle from global planning and site acquisition through design, construction, deployment, operations, and eventual decommissioning, spanning 400+ datacenters across more than 70 Azure regions, connected by over 600,000 kilometers of fiber. As the engine that enables Microsoft’s cloud-first mission, CO+I delivers reliable, trusted, secure, and sustainable cloud and AI infrastructure, ensuring capacity is available on time, every time, to meet customer growth and support Microsoft’s broader mission to empower every person and organization to achieve more.

The CO+I Artificial Intelligence (AI) Delivery organization is responsible for enabling Microsoft’s next generation of hyperscale AI supercomputing capacity. The team has close collaboration throughout Microsoft, as these initiatives will be at the forefront of innovation, involving pilot programs and other experiments that shape our continued dedication to delivering AI platform services quickly and on a large scale.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a Director of AI Supercomputing Scale to lead standardization, innovation, and execution excellence across global deployments to accelerate the delivery of AI and commercial cloud infrastructure. Success requires deep cross-organizational collaboration, thought leadership, and the ability to translate complex technical strategies into clear executive-level communication.

Establish, evolve, and drive adoption of global design and deployment standards for AI supercomputing capacity. Ensure consistency, predictability, and repeatability across regions, datacenter generations, and hardware platforms.Lead the identification, evaluation, and implementation of new technologies, processes, and architectural approaches that increase Microsoft’s ability to scale AI infrastructure deployments rapidly and reliably.Design and operationalize best practices, automation, and integration improvements that reduce cycle time for bringing new compute, network, and storage capacity online across the commercial cloud.Serve as a thought leader for emerging technologies, deployment models, and AI infrastructure capabilities. Partner with engineering, hardware, networking, and operations teams to incubate and land forward looking solutions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and 10+ years experience in engineering or product/technical program management in AI infrastructure, cloud-scale systems, or hardware integration, OR equivalent experience.8+ years experience managing cross-functional and cross-team initiatives at global scale.4+ years experience leading large-scale infrastructure deployments or capacity planning programs for cloud services.1+ year Experience building or deploying agentic AI solutions (autonomous agents, orchestration frameworks, automated decision making systems).2+ years designing or implementing software defined networks (SDN) in hyperscale, enterprise, or cloud environments.

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
