Description
OverviewReporting to the General Manager of the Learning Lab in Worldwide Learning, the Senior Director, Content Portfolio Strategy will drive Microsoft’s external skilling content portfolio strategy end-to-end. This individual contributor will shape a comprehensive content roadmap across first-party and third-party contributors, ensuring our learning content meets the needs of both technical and business audiences at scale. The role requires a strategic leader who can forge high-impact content partnerships, lead cross-functional initiatives, and continually innovate to deliver high-quality learning experiences that empower Microsoft’s customers, partners, employees and future generations. The impact of this role is substantial – your work will directly influence global skilling offerings and help millions of learners succeed in the AI-powered roles of the future.
Responsibilities
Content Portfolio Strategy & Execution: Develop and execute an overarching content portfolio strategy covering multiple subject areas, modalities, and audiences. Identify priority skills/topics and align content development plans with business goals and customer feedback. Ensure a holistic content experience across self-paced and programmatic channels that serve both business and technical learners. Drive the end-to-end content lifecycle from ideation to publication, optimizing for impact and engagement.Content Partnerships: Establish and manage strategic content partnerships with both internal teams and external content providers. Negotiate content partnership agreements and oversee their creation and maintenance to expand Microsoft’s skilling offerings. Serve as the primary liaison for content partners, ensuring mutual goals are defined and met. Continuously cultivate these relationships to bring in diverse, high-quality content while upholding Microsoft’s standards and compliance requirements.Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead cross-functional collaboration to deliver integrated and innovative content solutions. Work closely with engineering, product, design, marketing, and field teams worldwide to ensure content is embedded into product plans and program initiatives. Influence and coordinate across divisions to set clear expectations for content delivery (e.g. aligning content releases with product launch schedules). Act as the voice of the learner in these forums, championing content needs and ensuring a cohesive end-to-end customer learning experience.Innovation & Content Quality: Drive continuous improvement and innovation in content development. Utilize data and feedback to measure content performance and quality, defining clear success metrics (OKRs/KPIs) for the content portfolio. Identify opportunities to improve content relevance and effectiveness – for instance, by leveraging emerging technologies like generative AI to scale content creation and personalization. Implement processes to regularly update and refine content based on market trends, learner feedback, and new product releases. Ensure all content meets high standards for accuracy, clarity, inclusivity, and accessibility, reinforcing Microsoft’s brand as a leader in learning content.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
7+ years experience in program management, digital content publishing and management, or experience in a writing or editing role OR equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Content Partnerships & Vendor Management: Experience forging and managing partnerships with external content creators, vendors, or industry experts. Skilled in negotiating terms and ensuring partners deliver quality content aligned with standards and deadlines.Innovative Mindset: Passion for innovation in learning. Familiarity with modern content technologies and platforms (e.g. AI-driven content creation, learning management systems) that can be leveraged to enhance content scale and personalization. Demonstrated curiosity to stay ahead of industry trends in skilling, edTech, and digital content experiences.Domain Knowledge: Knowledge of Microsoft’s training and certification ecosystem (e.g. Microsoft Learn, Worldwide Learning programs) or similar enterprise skilling platforms is a plus. Ability to quickly grasp technical and business concepts to ensure content accuracy and relevance for a variety of audiences.Leadership & Drive: Self-starter with a growth mindset and the ability to work independently while leading others through influence. Exceptional problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and a knack for driving initiatives from concept to completion. Content Program Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
