As a Senior Data Scientist in the IC3 Data Science team, you will help shape the future of intelligent communications by developing scalable ML, AI, and LLM solutions that directly impact billions of users worldwide. Your work will drive innovation and deliver measurable improvements in product quality, reliability, and user experience.

This role requires close collaboration with Product Management and Data Engineering teams to understand underlying telemetry data and metrics and enable agentic and AI tools for driving business intelligence, while also partnering with product teams to integrate advanced algorithms and models into globally deployed products, ensuring solutions are robust, reliable, and deliver reliable user experiences.

You will train, tune, and evaluate models based on customer feedback and requirements, applying rigorous frameworks to measure and improve product quality, performance, and impact. Your work will directly contribute to the evolution of Microsoft’s communications platforms, empowering billions of users to connect and collaborate securely and effectively.

Responsibilities

Lead the technical design and implementation of AI tooling and large language models (LLMs) to enable business intelligence and improve decision-making for internal stakeholders.Define agentic analytical tool evaluation frameworks and implement to effectively validate and test analytical solutions provided by AI agents.Own a defined technical domain and partner with product managers and internal stakeholders to identify high-impact business problems and deliver innovative data science solutions, including domain and data understanding, statistical analysis, metric development, and applied machine learning to drive measurable outcomes.Build scalable, production-ready solutions by developing operational models, writing extensible code, applying strong debugging practices, and ensuring reliability and robustness in deployment.Drive strategy and innovation by staying current on industry trends and technologies, defining business and customer solution objectives, and identifying new opportunities in partnership with cross-functional teams.Apply a customer-focused approach by training and evaluating models against customer needs, incorporating structured feedback loops, and ensuring solutions deliver relevant, high-impact outcomes.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results) OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)OR equivalent experience. 2+ years customer-facing, project-delivery experience, professional services, and/or consulting experience. Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, programming languages including Python, machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch and data querying tools such as SQL. Experience with transformer-based models (e.g., GPT, Llama). Technical background in coding and design, specifically in the development of AI models for scaled production services.  Demonstrated success in shipping applied research to production, highlighting a track record of combining coding skills with advanced expertise in AI model development.   Familiarity with MLOps, model deployment, and monitoring in production environments is a plus.Proficient verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively.Demonstrated ability to quickly master new technologies, tools, and domains.Comfortable operating in a dynamic environment, taking initiative to bring clarity and momentum while remaining self‑motivated, outcomes‑focused, and demonstrating ownership and accountability.

Data Science IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $114,400 - CAD $203,900 per year.
