Team Overview: The Microsoft Insider Risk Program is dedicated to safeguarding our people, data, and intellectual property from internal threats that could compromise the security and integrity of the company. Built on a foundation of collaboration, innovation, and analytical rigor, our team is focused on developing advanced detection and response capabilities for proactive insider risk identification, enabling Microsoft to remain resilient against internal risks in an ever-evolving threat landscape.
Role Overview: We are seeking a data scientist to join the engineering team for the Insider Risk Program. This role will join a fast-paced, growing team to build advanced detection and monitoring capabilities, leveraging tools and techniques from across data science to create new features. You will be responsible for applying analysis and experimentation methods to iterate quickly, validate hypotheses, and measure system performance. This role will collaborate closely with all parts of the Insider Risk Program, from driving program alignment to translating operational needs to applying software development and systems engineering best practices.

Responsibilities
• Contribute to the design, development, implementation, and testing of data science techniques to enhance and expand detection systems. Apply big-data methods to ensure scalability and performance.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand gaps and requirements and effectively translate from business problem to technical approach. Communicate technical concepts to a variety of audiences to enable shared understanding.
• Develop and maintain detailed documentation for models and features to support debugging, troubleshooting, and long-term code maintenance.
• Maintain awareness of trends in cybersecurity and insider risk detection strategies to identify opportunities to apply novel methodologies, share knowledge and contribute to technical discussions, and participate in internal/external conferences.
Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications:
Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field OR Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results) or consulting experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 2+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results) OR equivalent experience Other Requirements:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local US government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid passport. • 1+ years experience in programming in Python and SQL or SQL-like language
• 1+ years experience in cybersecurity or insider risk programs
• 1+ years experience in software development concepts like unit testing and CI/CD frameworks
• 1+ years experience in applications of unsupervised machine learning or anomaly detection methods to business problems
Data Science IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
