Description

The Microsoft Health, Life Sciences, and Public Sector Industries Business’ Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs (“HPSI” “CELA") has an immediate opening for a dynamic and motivated attorney in the role of Corporate Counsel to provide comprehensive legal support for the compliance functions within our HPSI Compliance, Governance and Operations (“CGO”) legal team for an assignment to support the HPSI business unit. The qualified attorney will primarily provide compliance focused legal support to each of the four HPSI verticals: Federal, State and Local Government, Health Life Sciences and Education. As part of the CGO Legal Team, the attorney will work with business leaders and deal attorneys in these verticals to validate and resolve compliance issues, drive operational efficiencies and alignment, and provide proactive compliance training and awareness for the HPSI business unit.

The qualified attorney will also provide legal compliance support on national security and trade compliance.

This role requires a mature legal presence to communicate effectively with the HPSI business leadership and several complex public sector relationships. This role will have reporting responsibility to our Assistant General Counsel, HPSI Compliance.

Compliance, Governance & Operations:

Provide oversight and efficient execution in the following areas across the entire breadth of the HPSI business unit:Work closely with team members, senior CELA and business leadership to proactively monitor, prioritize, and address operational risk and compliance issues and trends impacting public sector and regulated industries customers and partnersAssist in the development and support of compliance programs, systems, processes and training appropriate for a world-class public sector/regulated industries contractorAssist business stakeholders with optimizing and implementing compliance and governance infrastructure for risk management in highly regulated industry verticals in a manner that both mitigates risk and enables Microsoft HPSI’s continued growthProvide legal advice to ensure operational security, appropriate protection of public sector and regulated industry sensitive information at all data classifications, and compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and other obligations of a world-class companyCollaborate with teams across the business and CELA to develop efficiencies through tooling to enable business complianceEnsure deep alignment and coordination with engineering, business and other corporate legal teams engaging with or supporting Microsoft’s interactions with public sector and regulated industriesDrive/coordinate policy affecting Microsoft HPSI business unit with CELA U.S. Government Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Corporate Security and Trust, and other Microsoft teams focused on compliance Other

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Juris Doctor Degree or international equivalent degree AND 1+ year(s) experience as a practicing attorneyOR equivalent experience.Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.Experience gained in-house, or at a government agency or law firm supporting government and regulated industries transactions, as well as experience with FAR, DFARS, commercial item procurement, and government compliance and operations.

Other Requirements:

Cloud Screening: Candidates must be able to successfully complete and pass a Microsoft Cloud background screening. Required Cloud Screenings will be administered on a recurring bi-annual basis.

Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under export control regulations, potentially under the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations or Export Administration Regulations, the EU Dual Use Regulation, and/or other export control regulations. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide proof of citizenship, U.S. permanent residency, or other protected status (e.g., under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)) for assessment of eligibility to access the export-controlled information. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid passport. Lawful permanent residents, refugees, and asylees may verify status using other documents, where applicable.

Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid passport.

Prefered Qualifcaions:

Ability to obtain and maintain a United States Security ClearanceWorking knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint Proficiency in advising on data protection issues and privacy lawsUnderstanding of advanced technologies including artificial intelligence Experience in legal support for government contracting, including cybersecurity, ITAR, Trade Agreements Act, national security, small business set asides and small business subcontracting, and other unique U.S.

Legal Counsel IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $103,800 - $200,300 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,700 - $219,200 per year.
