OverviewThe Corporate and External Legal Affairs (CELA) AI & Research legal team is hiring for a Senior Corporate Counsel to serve as a trusted adviser for Microsoft's AI Partnerships.
As Senior Corporate Counsel you will provide legal support for strategic collaborations that advance Microsoft’s AI initiatives. This role requires a deep understanding of technology law, intellectual property, and regulatory frameworks impacting AI. You will partner closely with engineering, business development, and policy teams to enable responsible innovation and compliance across global markets.

Responsibilities
Manage complex agreements for AI-related partnerships, including licensing, joint development, and IP sharing arrangements.
Identify and mitigate legal risks in emerging AI technologies and partnership models.
Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice to teams across the company, including Engineering, Sales, and Marketing.
Identify and address IP, privacy, and other legal and regulatory issues.
Advise on global AI regulations, privacy, and data governance requirements; ensure alignment with Microsoft’s Responsible AI principles.
Support internal and external advocacy on AI-related legal and policy issues; contribute to position papers and industry standards, as appropriate.
Lead complex projects of diverse scope, driving legal initiatives that support business growth and innovation.
Advocate for Microsoft’s interests by developing relationships with legal professionals, government officials, customers, and partners.
Evaluate processes, develop policies and best practices, and provide continuous feedback to make the delivery of legal services within your work group significantly more efficient.
Ensure a coordinated CELA voice through broad collaboration across groups, management, and leaders. This will involve organizing and simplifying complex issues, and recommending clear courses of action. Embody our culture and values 
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Juris Doctor Degree or international equivalent degree AND 9+ years experience as a practicing attorneyOR equivalent experience.
Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.
Preferred Qualifications:
3+ years in-house counsel experience.
Experience with global AI regulatory frameworks and ethical AI principles.
Familiarity with cloud computing, machine learning, and data privacy and intellectual property law.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

Legal Counsel IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $147,000 - $258,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $185,900 - $278,900 per year.
